Building materials sales higher
Building materials saw a boost in November with a jump of 24.6 per cent in sales volume and an increase of 25.8 per cent in sales value, according to the latest Retail Sales Index figures.
Overall, retail sales for the period increased in volume by 0.8 per cent.
The value rose to $107.2 million, representing year-on-year growth of 2.3 per cent.
A 2.5 per cent increase in the cost of food led to a 2.5 per cent increase in sales volume in this sector and a 4.4 per cent increase in sales value.
Liquor stores also saw some growth, with sales volume increasing by 2.9 per cent and sales value by 5 per cent.
The biggest drop was in motor vehicle sales, which decreased by 4.9 per cent in volume, and 3 per cent in value compared with November 2023.
Apparel stores saw a decrease in sales volume of 0.7 per cent, but an increase in value of 3.4 per cent.
Meanwhile, imports via courier increased by $0.5 million to $16.7 million. This increase was attributed to the higher importation of apparel and accessories, toys, games and sports requisites. Imports by household decreased $1.1 million to $9.3 million. Declarations at the airport by returning residents increased $0.2 million to $5.5 million.
