Smartphone parking system goes live
Drivers in Hamilton can now use their smartphones to pay for parking on Front Street, thanks to a new contactless parking system powered by local payment gateway Powertranz and technology firm Mobile Smart City Pango.
The Corporation of Hamilton has rolled out the new platform using license plate recognition, contactless access control and mobile app payments. The system allows drivers to enter, park and pay via their phone without handling paper tickets or coins.
Chris Burns, the chief executive of Powertranz, said: “We are excited to work with Mobile Smart City Company to bring this parking service to Bermuda and enable its implementation in the Caribbean via our integration. It is the ultimate solution for smart and effortless parking.”
The partnership between Powertranz and Mobile Smart City Pango integrates mobile payments with Powertranz’s existing infrastructure, which supports encrypted credit and debit card transactions across Bermuda and the wider region.
John Incandela, the chief executive of Mobile Smart City Pango, said the launch marked the start of a broader regional expansion. “We are thrilled to bring our parking management solutions to Bermuda,” he said. “Our strategic integration with [First Atlantic Commerce] FAC also paves the way for expansion across the Caribbean, offering a hassle-free parking experience to other jurisdictions.”
