Acrisure Re has appointed Roman Romeo as president and head of its Bermuda operations as the global reinsurance broker looks to strengthen its presence on the island.

Mr Romeo, who took up the post on April 7, will report to Michael Cross, the president of Acrisure Re North America. He will lead the local team with a mandate to grow the business, improve service capabilities and build out a high-performing team.

Acrisure Re, part of global fintech group Acrisure, operates from offices across North America and Europe, which, besides Bermuda, includes London, Toronto and Zurich.

Mr Romeo previously served as chief executive of Aon Reinsurance Solutions Bermuda and brings more than 20 years of experience in underwriting, analytics and portfolio management. He has held senior positions at Axis Capital, PartnerRe, Flagstone Re and XL Group (now Axa XL).

Acrisure Re has also named Barry Gordon as senior vice-president, ILW.

Mr Gordon joined this week from Aon. He is reporting to Mr Romeo and focusing on trading industry loss warranties as part of Acrisure’s indexed product offering.

Simon Hedley, the chief executive of Acrisure Re Group, said: “The hiring of Roman represents a major milestone in Acrisure Re’s commitment to expanding its footprint and deepening its influence in the Bermuda market. With Barry also joining the team, we are building a world-class platform that will firmly cement Acrisure Re’s standing in the market.”

Paul Scope, the chief executive of Acrisure Bermuda, added: “Roman’s appointment, alongside Barry’s, is a powerful signal of our intent to grow thoughtfully and meaningfully. I look forward to working alongside them and seeing the impact they will make in the months and years ahead.”

Mr Romeo said: “Bermuda continues to play a critical role in the global reinsurance landscape and I’m pleased to be joining Acrisure Re at a time of strategic focus on the Island.”
