Gibbons cuts ribbon on new store
Gibbons Company cut the ribbon on Palm Lane on Reid Street today and hopes to open the home furnishings store to the public later in the week.
It will offer premium bedding, furniture, towels and other items sourced directly from India, China and other countries.
The ceremony involved Gibbons board chairman David Gibbons, his wife, Louise, and company chief executive Tony Thompson.
“This is a brand that was thought of, conceptualised and designed by Bermudians,” said Mr Thompson.
“It’s something that’s never been done in Bermuda before. We wanted to have a brand that could compete on the international stage but also could speak to our local Bermuda customers.
He continued: “Our customers have been asking for years for better premium home goods and we want to make sure that we provide that to them. So we’re excited again to open this up to the general public and we're hoping to see everyone in the store.”
The more than a century-old Gibbons Company has operated its home store, selling home décor and bed and bath products across 8,000 square feet of Washington Mall, as well as other locations.
The island’s largest retailer was founded in 1916 and continues with family-friendly fashions of wide appeal and a famous basement of home goods.
