Bermuda Karting Club (BKC) president Jason North has hailed the past season as the best ever since racing began at the Southside Raceway.North is encouraged to see his association’s membership increase and the sport’s profile raised during the past campaign.“The 2011/12 race season turned out to be the most successful for the club at the current Southside Raceway,” the 125cc Shifter Class driver declared. “We’re already looking forward to our 2012/13 season and continuing with the great momentum of growth that we have been experiencing of recent.”North is particularly delighted to see an influx of youngsters joining his association which bodes well for the future of Karting in Bermuda.“I can only see more positive things coming from our growing popularity, most importantly with the continued development of our Junior programme,” he said.The 2011/12 season concluded last weekend at Southside Raceway where the remaining championships were decided.Patrick Ingham clinched the TAG Senior Class followed by David Barbosa and Luis Martins in second and third respectively.Amber Lopes won the Junior Clone Class 12-15 age group with Al Seymour Jr and Jehan Durrant rounding off the top three.Andrew Cabral won the two-man Senior Clone Class by 60 points over Robert DeCosta.Alexander Roque and Ryan Lopes locked up the 125cc Shifter and Junior Clone (7-12 age group) Classes prior to last weekend’s season finale that featured one race worth double points towards the championship in each respective division.Barbosa was last weekend’s biggest winner with wins in the Senior TAG and 125cc Shifter Classes.Others driving to Victory Lane were Owen DeCosta in the Junior Clone Class 7-12 age group and Jahnazae Swan who took the coveted chequered flag in the Junior Clone Class 12-15 age group respectively.BKC are expected to announce details of their upcoming annual prize ceremony in the near future and plan to kick off the 2012/13 season in September.
