Veteran Ingham turns back the clock
Otis Ingham blew away the competition during the last round of the 2012 Correia Construction Motorcross Championship Series. The seasoned warrior rolled back the years as he chalked up a remarkable six wins in two separate classes that left race fans awestruck.Ingham swept all three heats in the Over-30s and 450cc classes to cap a memorable day of racing at the refurbished Southside track. The 46-year-old rider, who has over 30 years racing experience under his belt, appears to be coming into his own on his new 450cc bike.“I’m finally starting to get the bike sorted out the way I want it to be,” he said. “So the bike is starting to feel a lot more comfortable and I’m just starting to focus a little more on what I’m doing.“I just had so much other things going on in the beginning of the season and I have been able to pull it together a little bit more and feel more comfortable on the bike. I had to make some adjustments to where it feels better for me because I am riding a new bike and I had a few suspension issues.”Ingham said riding a bigger bike at the new race track was no easy feat.“The bike is too big for that track so I have to be more patient with it,” he said. “The track has a lot of tight turns for a big bike like a 450cc so I have to be more patient than normal. Usually with a bigger bike you want to ride more wide open but on this track you have to ride a little slower to go faster.”Ingham had things all his own way thanks partly to the misfortune of rival Ben Zoellner whose bike wasn’t up to par.“My main competition, Ben, had a couple of problems that set him back and made it a bit more comfortable for me,” Ingham added.“I think if everything was running a bit smoother for him that day it probably would not have been that easy for me.”Also managing three wins at the weekend were Jahdae Trott (85cc), Kai-Jun Simons (65cc) and Zamair Darrell (Junior Super Mini). Jyrie Mitchell had three non-contested wins, competing alone in the Super Mini Class.Among the day’s double heat winners were Tariq Bell (C Class), Keegan Jones (Pee Wee) and Zano Tucker (50cc).Szaine Williams and Aaron Cannonier were the top riders in the B and Pee Wee Classes each with one win, a second and third respectively.Jonah Smith (B Class), Zico Majors (B Class), Kenneth Mathie (C Class) and Moses Johnson (50cc) also managed single wins on the day.
