Sousa-Saints crowned champion in Superbike Division

Jevaughn Simons won the Formula Xtreme class and Race of Champions honours on Sunday at Southside.

Six riders were crowned ‘Race of Champions’ winners at the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club’s (BMRC) event at Southside in St David’s at the weekend.

Cody Sousa-Saints, Jevaughn Simons, Keanu Wilson, Devon Bailey, Jazari Caisey and D’Nico Durrant won their respective categories in the three race format.

Sousa-Saints won the Superbike 600cc division, winning two of the three races up for grabs to garner 50 points, while Shannon Caisey claimed two second place to finish as runner-up with 40 points. There was no third race in this division.

Third place went to Edward Daniels (29) who helped himself to a third and fourth place finish in the two races.

Simons had his way in the Formula Xtreme class, winning all three races to accumulate 75 points, while Cleve Wilson (56) took second place with two seconds and third. Earlson Bradshaw (52) claimed third with two thirds.

Wilson also had day to remember as he won the GP 125cc class, amassing 75 points from his three wins. Jazari Caisey (52) grabbed two thirds and a second to take second place in the division.

Haley Jai Place (40) earned two second places, however, didn’t compete in the final race of the day.

Bailey overcame a slow start to the day to finish with two wins to go with his fourth place in the first race to gather 63 points in the Scooter 70cc section, two more than Ricky Wade who got came first, second and third in his races.

Third went to Nasaje Anderson (56) helped himself to two seconds and a third.

Jazari Caisey had a routine day at the office, winning all three races in the GP80 class, with runner-up Ryan Resendes grabbing two seconds on his way to 40 points, He didn’t ride in the second race.

In the Mini GP 70, Durrant won two of the three races to take top honours with 50 points, while CJ Sousa-Saints got a win and a second to earn 45 points.

Both riders only competed in two races.

Also up for grabs was the GP80 cc regular season class title, which Jazari Caisey claimed with the points he picked up.

The remaining titles were already clinched, with Shannon Caisey being the new Superbike champion.

Place won the GP125cc champion with Peter Teceira securing the Formula Xtreme title.

Wade was the Scooter 70cc champion, with Durrant the new GP70cc national champion and Azrah Smith claiming the Mini Bike Open title.

“The Race of Champions was a much anticipated race event and a bittersweet closing to an all round great season of motorcycle racing,” said BMRC president Cyril Whitter II.

“With special edition trophies available for the overall winners of each class of the day there was an underlying competitive atmosphere brewing.

“Jazari Caisey rode in two classes, securing the final available championship of the season (the GP80 Championship) whilst taking an overall top three finish in the GP125 class as well.

“We even had fun mechanics and adult mini bike races to close out the day.

“Overall, I’m happy with our 2013 motorcycle racing season. The sport saw growth in both new riders and a return of some former racers throughout the year.”
