Blake Horseman served notice of his driving talent yet again with a heat victory in the TAG Senior class at the Rubis Southside Raceway on Sunday.

It has been a breakthrough season for the 15-year-old and he beat Scott Barnes and David Barbosa into second and third respectively at the latest Bermuda Karting Club meet.

Scott “Skitchy” Barnes won the remaining two heats in the class, with David Selley second and Amber Lopes third in Heat 2, and Ryan Lopes second and Horseman third in Heat 3.

The two Shifter classes produced two dominant individual driving displays.

Shannon Caisey won all three Shifter Modified heats, beating Jason North into second each time. Kenneth Harrison bagged two podium finishes, with Devon Durrant third in Heat 3.

In the Shifter Stock races, Barnes completed a hat-trick of wins — making it five overall for the raceday — beating Ryan Rebello into second for two of them and Corey Lewis into second in Heat 1.

The third heat produced a notable third place for youngster Lopes.

Meanwhile, in the junior Cadet category, Jamie Newton stormed to three wins, confirming once again his status as the driver to beat.

Other impressive performers were Ashley Horseman, with two seconds, and Nile Bean, one second and two thirds. The TAG Junior class was dominated by Ryan Burgess, who cleaned up with three heat wins.

For the golden oldies in the growing L206 Masters class, the format is clearly turning out some close racing, with three separate winners: Jeff Sousa, Travis Lewis and Steven Bridges. Lewis also claimed two runners-up, while America’s Cup sailor Joey Newton came second in Heat 2.

Barnes, the club president, was delighted not only with his own driving performances but also that of the youngsters in St David’s.

“TAG senior is the most competitive class and it’s really good to see young drivers like Blake Horseman and Ryan Lopes make the move up from juniors and do so well,” he said.

“That shows that the future of the karting club is strong. Plus in the Cadets, Jamie Newton is dominating but others like Ashley Horseman, Nile Bean and Jacob Hines have stepped up. They’re getting closer to Jamie and he’s making them step up.”
