Rough-N-Ready Racing will look to extend their impressive winning streak during the Funny Car Fever and Nostalgia Reunion at the Sacramento Raceway Park in Sacramento, California, this weekend.

The Bermudian-owned top fuel drag racing syndicate are competing in the 7.0 Pro class where they are gunning for a fourth consecutive title at the California Independent Funny Car Association season opener.

Twelve teams will compete in the qualifying races today with the top two advancing to the final tomorrow.

“We hope to be the number one qualifier along with the best reaction time,” said Jacqueline Williams, the sister of team owner Harvey Williams Jr. “If we do win this event, it will be the fourth time in a row.”

The racing syndicate are making their second appearance of the season and are going in with momentum after finishing fourth with driver Tony Trimp behind the wheel at the Good Vibrations March Meet held at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California, last month.

“Our season opener [National Hot Rod Association] was the best we had in a long time considering the weather,” Williams said.

The Sacramento team, who have won nine titles in the past three years, including the CIFCA championship twice, had planned to debut their new 1965 Mustang GT funny car body at the event but were unable to get it ready in time.

“We will be running our 1986 Corvette body since our new one isn’t ready to hit the track yet,” said Williams, a cousin of local powerboat racer Craig Nisbett.

“We are starting off our CIFCA season opener with nine funny cars. We have our usual rivals and also have a new opponent who has a similar funny car body, but his Corvette is a 1988 model.”

Williams’s car, which races under the name “Happy Hour”, is powered by a 598 Big Block Chevy with powerglide transmission.

To date, the team has a best elapsed time of 6.97secs and fastest time of 196mph.

Originated in 1984, the CIFCA is a West Coast drag racing association that specialises in affordable funny car shows.

Its membership boasts more than 36 teams, the majority of which compete in funny cars powered by supercharged, alcohol engines, which usually last a complete season between teardowns.

Approximately 1,200 horsepower is necessary for a 2,000lb funny car to able to run mid seven-second elapsed times in the quarter-mile.

Members compete for points, cash and contingencies and take great pride in their operations.
