Bermudian youngster Nevaeh Gaugain picked up great experience competing against some of the best junior riders in the United States in the MotoAmerica Mini Cup.

Gaugain, 13, raced in the Ohvale 160 class, which is for riders aged 10 to 14, in Carolina and Alabama last month, with the youngster pleased with his performance against riders with more experience.

“I felt really good, I was a little bit nervous because in the US they have got a lot of practice and most of them have been racing a lot longer than me,’’ Gaugain said.

“My goal was make it into the top ten and I did that in Carolina, so I was happy, although though I could have done better.”

Gaugain’s best performance came in the first race of round two at Carolina Motorsports Park, where he finished ninth before dropping three places to twelfth in the second race.

In round one, Gaugain finished eleventh in the first race and had to settle for fifteenth in the second event after overshooting a corner, which pushed his bike off the track and into the pit lane.

At Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, Gaugain finished fourteenth in his first race and improved by one position in race two.

In the first race of the second round, oil blowing out of his overflow container on to race tyres caused him to crash, which was unfortunate since he had just completed his fastest lap of the weekend.

In the second round-two contest Gaugain finished thirteenth, with the race restarted twice after crashes.

Gaugain will return to the US ffor the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville on July 15 to 16, with his family also looking to send him to the last two rounds of the MotoAmerica Mini Cup in Pennsylvania, scheduled for August 18 and 19.

Races in New Jersey on September 22 and 23 will also be considered if the required level of funding can be acheived with potential sponsors urged to come forward.

In Bermuda, Gaugain races with the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association and was the 2021 Metrakit champion. He started racing in 2020 and trains in St. David’s.
