Scott Barnes left to rue misfortune in Las Vegas
Scott Barnes was left to rue his luck in a frustrating outing at the Skusa SuperNationals in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Barnes, who was going in search of a third successive podium place at the event competing in the Shifters Masters class, endured early misfortune after collisions in the first two heats, before being disqualified in the third for inadvertently racing on the wrong tyres after initially finishing fifth.
As a result, the 39-year-old was forced to start at the back of the 47-driver grid for the final race on Sunday.
However, despite that setback, the Bermudian driver was still able to showcase his ability, climbing up the standings throughout the race to ultimately finish fourteenth overall.
While frustrated with the disappointing outing, Barnes took some heart from his spirited performance in the final.
“Leaving Vegas and the Skusa SuperNationals after a very disappointing race week,” said Barnes who competes for Magik Kart US.
“They say there’s no moral victory in losing – losing is losing, and we didn’t get the job done. There was no third podium in a row.
“Starting 47th for Super Sunday, it would have been easy to just give up, but I’m not built like that, and we fought hard for the best result we could make out of an unlucky week.
“Coming from dead last to pass 33 karts and finish in the top 15 in fourteenth was a fun race, but knowing we were a top-five kart all week is frustrating.”
