Burgeoning talent Ahlierre Belloquet dreaming of professional motocross career
Ahlierre Belloquet became so obsessed with speed watching other motocross riders in action at Bermuda Motorsports Park that one day she decided to hop on the bike and try it out for herself.
“I have a stepbrother, which is Aiden Simmons, and I used to watch him when he used to ride in the 50cc class and saw how fast he would go and it really inspired me,” she told The Royal Gazette. “So I started riding on his bike and getting experience and he was a really big supporter in that area.
“I just wanted to get on and try it, so I went on the small track to get a feel for it and liked it a lot.”
After gaining more experience on the bike and getting familiar with the track conditions, the 14-year-old Berkeley Institute student was ready to take the next step and began competing against her male counterparts in the 85cc class last season.
It proved to be a memorable debut campaign for Belloquet as she topped the girls podium and finished an impressive thirteenth overall in the division.
“I did well placing thirteenth overall in the 85cc class racing with boys and first out of the girls, which made me want to push even harder this season,” she added.
Lightning could potentially strike twice for Belloquet who finds herself thick in the hunt for the 85cc Ladies title with the season winding down.
“The season is going good. Right now I am in second place and with five more race days I feel that I can do it,” she said.
The promising teenager’s title hopes received a tremendous boost after producing a maiden clean sweep of victories in all three heats contested in her division at the Southside racetrack last weekend.
“I just got my first three wins last race day and I am pushing to do it again for the rest of the season,” she declared.
“I think one of the key parts for that day was my spirits were high.
“I had high confidence and felt good that day and just kept telling myself I can do it and also the No 1, Jesus, has it all done.
“It just feels amazing and I get a lot of support from the other riders.”
Like any other athlete, Belloquet has set herself goals to strive for.
“I hope that I do really well and make my parents proud and make sure I do what I have to do to win some trophies over time and hopefully one day go pro,” she added.
The female rider was among seven riders achieving a clean sweep of victories in their respective classes during Bermuda Motocross Association’s 52nd anniversary and St John Ambulance Appreciation Day event last weekend.
Also enjoying a perfect outing were Allan Degraff, Lorenzo Burch, A’Jahni Foggo, Mazaii Tucker, Aiden Simmons and Ade Stovell.
