Scott Barnes gets double podium but still wants more
Karter Scott Barnes came away from the Skusa Pro Tour Spring Nationals with mixed feelings despite making it on the podium twice.
Competing at the Motorsports Country Club of Cincinnati in Ohio, Barnes was made to pay for spinning in the pre-final on Saturday.
“It was a good weekend overall and any time I can get a double podium at any event is always good,” Barnes said.
“It’s obviously a little disappointing as whenever we travel out here first is always the goal and we definitely had a winning kart but we had a blt of bad luck in the pre-final.
“We were running third and had a spin and that started us in the back for the final on Sunday, but we made it through the field to finish on the podium.
“On Saturday we battled in the final and we got a team 1-2-3, which was pretty cool. I’m happy with the result and hopefully we will do better at the next one.”
It was a huge learning curve for Barnes who had never raced at the track before and was playing catch-up in terms of experience.
“All my competitors had raced this track before and it was probably the most difficult track I’ve driven on for a long time, very technical, very fast and very physical,” Barnes said.
“That probably put me at a disadvantage over the other guys as it took me a while to get up to speed.”
Barnes will get a second crack at the track in just a few weeks when he returns for the Stars Championship Series, in which he sits second in the standings.
“It will be nice going back there and knowing the track,”Barnes said.
“I’m second in that series so I’ll be going all out to get some wins.”
