Shane Madeiros and co-pilot Errin Butterfield produced a dominant display to consolidate their lead in the A class in the Season Points Series at Ferry Reach on Sunday.

The pair achieved victories in the two races contested in choppy conditions to distance themselves from rivals Chris and Jacari Marshall.

“It was a good day and we had a couple of little electrical issues going on, but still managed to pull it in,” Madeiros told The Royal Gazette.

“I enjoyed the track the race committee put us on as it was something different and like a little practice for the Around the Island Race.

“I wouldn’t say it was crazy rough, but it definitely was choppy with some swell there.”

Madeiros and Butterfield also lead the National Championship Series over former multiple world champion Marshall and his grandson Jacari.

Also achieving a clean sweep of victories on the day was D class driver Howard Ascento and co-pilot Ed Burrows.

“The performance was pretty good and really weren’t pushing her too much,” Ascento said

“Just trying to get the feel of it, see what’s she doing, how she acts, and I am pretty pleased with it

“Yesterday was the first time having the boat out running this season. The boat seems to be working pretty good and running at some good speeds right now.”

The tight battle for D class Season Points Series honours between Shaki Easton and rival driver Steven Meireles continues to heat up.

Easton and co-pilot M’Kai Hodsoll finished runner-up behind Ascento and Burrows in the first race, while Meireles and colleague Philip Raposo took the win in the second.

The two teams were tied for first in both the Season Points Series and National Championship Series heading into Sunday’s racing.

Quince’ Dowling and co-pilot Tai Bean won the opening race in the C class after rivals Jody and Tony Carreiro pulled out on the third lap.

Dowling and his fellow colleague then opted not to compete alone in the second race.

The Season Points Series C class title remains wide open with Dowling and Carreiro having recently moved up from the B class.

Dowling and Bean are the only C class entry to compete in the National Championship series this year.

Reigning BV class National Championship Series champion Brandon DeSilva (BV class) and Henry Talbot (S class), the sole competitors in their respective divisions, also only participated in the first race.

DeSilva’s team is also the sole BV entry in the National Championship Series and Season Points Series this year, while Talbot and colleague Andrew Cottingham lead their division in both competitions.
