Scott Barnes named karting all-star in United States
Scott Barnes has picked up another prestigious honour after being named as one of karting’s all-stars.
EKarting News nominated Barnes among the top three drivers in the Masters category, which is for drivers aged 30 and over racing regularly in the United States, and highlighted his performance in the first four rounds of the Skusa Pro Tour and his win at the Stars Championship Series opener in Charlotte, calling the Bermudian “the most consistent Master Shifter driver of the season”.
Barnes was delighted to receive the accolade with his reputation continuing to rise among his competition.
“It adds another rung to the ladder of my international racing career and it’s cool to see my hard work and that of the team pay off,” Barnes said.
“One of my team-mates also made it into the top three so that means the team is kicking on all cylinders.
“ It’s the first time I’ve known EKarting news to name an all-star cast throughout the entire USA and to be in the top three Masters overall is cool.
“We’ve had nine weekends of racing in the States this year and podiumed in pretty much every one. We’ve had a bunch of wins and it’s so cool to be named in the top three of those drivers across the States, especially coming from a small island.
“This is the first year in a long time I have been able to do as many races internationally and to be seen like that is pretty cool. It’s always my goal when I race in the States to make a name for myself. When I go to these races I want people to know who I am. Coming from a small island it’s nice to make a name for myself overseas, that’s always been my goal.”
Barnes left Bermuda this week to head to Indiana to compete in rounds five and six of the Skusa Pro Tour and he is going head to head with team-mate Joe Ruch in an attempt to secure a championship win.
“I’m leading the points overall in the Shifter Masters but they actually do a drop race, so you drop your worst result,” Barnes said.
“We’ve been pretty consistent in all four rounds but my team-mate Joe Ruch has had a bad weekend and can drop that round so with that he is 30 points ahead of me, which isn’t much. It looks like it’s coming down to me and him for the championship and we’ll battle it out.
“We’re team-mates and of course we both want to finish and ideally one-two but there are no team orders. During the race you don’t think about your team-mate you go out to win yourself. We will race clean but may the best man win. We both want to win and we will be racing hard, it will be no holds barred.”
