Aeziah Divine to race at Silverstone this weekend
Aeziah Divine is gearing up for the pinnacle of his 2024 racing season, when he competes in the R & G British Cup at Silverstone this weekend.
The 14-year-old Bermudian will be one of the youth riders to share the paddock with past and present MotoGP stars at Silverstone from Friday to Sunday.
Divine is competing in his fourth round of the season for the SENCAT Talent Team / Mortimer Racing – Victoria House Academy. He raced with the team at Brands Hatch GP in Kent last weekend, where he gained valuable experience on the iconic British circuit.
“I loved the Brands Hatch GP circuit, the team felt amazing, the track was fast and technical,’’ Divine said.
“It was a tough weekend, I had to learn a lot over a limited amount of track time. I also had to get used to the SENCAT Moto3, which is set up slightly different from my previous Microlise Cresswell Racing team bike.
“We knew 2024 would be a big learning year for me by stepping up to BTC, but it’s been a great experience. I have to learn all circuits over the race weekends while continuing to master the Honda NSF250R Moto3.
“The other riders in this class are quick and experienced on the bikes and the circuits. This means for every session I’m on the track with them, I learn a lot.
“I plan to race in the Moto3 class in the UK and eventually Spain over the next four to five years, so I’m still early into this new stage of my racing career.”
The young rider competed in the first two rounds of the R & G British Talent Cup under Microlise Cresswell Racing. However, the team could not continue beyond the second round following the sudden death of principal, John Cresswell, in June.
Divine is pinning his hopes on securing a few more entries into the class this season as a possible replacement rider for teams requiring a stand-in.
The blossoming motorcyclist is a recent recipient of the Department of Sport and Recreation’s National Junior and Elite Athlete Sponsorship Programme Awards, which has supported his season in the R & G British Talent Cup.
He also enjoys support from Mailboxes, Aries Sports Centre, Butterfield & Vallis, AceBoy Sports Group, VIBE 103, John Carreiro Sr, as well as the Joaquin, Fray and Marshall families.
“I’m grateful for the sports awards, my sponsors and individual supporters as it is challenging to compete at this stage, financially and skill wise,’’ Divine added.
