Steven Bridges and David Selley put in a strong showing on the final day of the Key West World Championship in Key West, Florida on Sunday to end the season on a good note.

The local powerboat racers finished fifth among the 14-strong Super Stock class in the four-lap race and sixth overall in their 32-foot twin-engined catamaran, S25 Team Bermuda/GL Construction.

“Overall not a bad result with no issues to report,” boat owner and throttleman Bridges told The Royal Gazette. “Started in fourteenth and ended with a fifth.“

Driver Selley added: “Solid day. Took a couple of laps to find a rhythm but chipped away at the fleet. We are super proud of the team for getting up and running and we thank everyone for their support.”

It was the perfect comeback for the pair after placing last when they withdrew from the opening race due to mechanical problems on Friday.

Bridges and Selley did the island proud this year after finishing third in the Super Stock Class series in their first full season of racing at this level.

“Thanks to our sponsors that support us all season and we hope we made you proud with third overall for the season in Super Stock Class,” Bridges added.

Also flying the island’s banner at the Key West Championship was Andy Stoneham and Luis Martin, who placed tenth and eleventh in the two races, and eleventh overall in the Super Stock class in their new 32-foot twin-engined Doug Wright catamaran, S12 Nuff Said Bermuda.

It was their first time competing in their new boat since taking possession of it.

Driver Martin and throttleman Stoneham were originally scheduled to make their debut in their new boat at the Clearwater Offshore Nationals in the Gulf of Mexico in September which was postponed as a result of Tropical Storm Helene.
