Jazuri Easton-Thompson sets pace in Motocross Trophy Series
Jazuri Easton-Thompson blew away the competition on his return to the local motocross scene in the opening Trophy Series races at Bermuda Motosports Park in Southside, St David’s, on Boxing Day.
The overseas-based rider, who trains and competes at the South of the Border Motocross training facility in South Carolina, won both races in the Expert class to take pole position in the battle for the overall title, showcasing his skills on the island for the first time in nearly a year.
“It’s always nice to race at home and have fun,” Easton-Thompson told The Royal Gazette. “My display was decent as I’m not on my own bike but I still rode decent. Track conditions weren’t too bad. It was a bit slick but it wasn’t that challenging.”
The 15-year-old will take a six-point advantage into the final two races of the Trophy Series when racing resumes on New Year’s Day.
“I feel good heading into New Year’s Day,” he added. “Not really stressing about points, just having fun.”
Preston Martin (44) and Aaron Cannonier (40) sit second and third in the Expert class.
Also recording a clean sweep of victories on the day were Shaddai Williams, A’Jahni Foggo and Tinho Tucker Wall, who seized pole position in their respective classes.
Cannonier leads the Over-30 class by six points over second-placed Lorenzo Burch, with Ronald Trott in third, a further eight points off the lead pace.
Williams holds an eight-point advantage at the top of the Novice class standings, followed by Jahdae Trott (42) in second and Deige Paynter (38) in third.
Foggo (50) tops the 85cc class, with Mikah Alves (44) in second and Lyfe Rewan Robinson (40) in third.
Tinho Tucker Wall (50) holds a commanding lead in the 65cc class, followed by Cassidy Spencer-Furbert (22) in second and King Clarke (20) in third with two races remaining.
The battle for honours in the 50cc and Pee Wee classes is wide open. Joint leaders in the 50cc class, Spencer-Furbert and Messiah Baker, both sit on 47 points, seven ahead of third-placed Remington Bowen (40).
Ace Moniz (45) clings to a one-point advantage over second-placed Kaden Bean-Wolfe (44) in the Pee Wee class, with Tiano Tucker Wall a point back in third. Nyla Goodchild is the sole competitor in the 85cc Ladies class.
Bermuda Motocross Association secretary Tina Wall summed up Thursday’s event as a success despite adverse weather.
“It was a very good day and I think it went well with the weather with it being a little rainy and the track being a bit mucky,” she said. “The riders used a lot of their skill and technique to get through where it was really soft.
“We didn’t have a lot of riders because of the track condition but those that did tough it out did really well, and we didn’t have any injuries and all that stuff. We didn’t get as many spectators as we wanted to. But it still turned out to be a good day once it stopped raining and the riders enjoyed it.”
