Lawyer thanks family as he is Called to Bar

Korin Knights has been Called to the Bar

Bermuda’s newest lawyer, Korin Knights, has gone from struggling in the traditional classroom to being Called to the Bermuda Bar.

Appearing before Chief Justice Ian Kawaley on Friday, an elated Mr Knights thanked parents Darren and Katrina Knights for their “countless sacrifices”.

He also voiced gratitude for “their early on decision to homeschool us to provide the best education when private school wasn’t affordable”.

Mr Knights told the court he had been home-schooled all the way to his first day at law school.

“I obtained my law degree from the University of Wales in 2015, after four years of study,” Mr Knights said.

“Subsequently, I undertook the legal practice course at the University of Law in London Moorgate, which I completed with commendation in 2016.”

He also obtained a master’s degree in business management from the same institution.

Mr Knights added: “I returned to Bermuda and began my pupillage at Conyers in September 2016 with the aim of qualifying into their corporate department, which is where I am currently working.”

Craig MacIntyre, director of the private client department at CD & P, introduced Mr Knights to the court.

Mr Justice Kawaley also heard of the new lawyer’s sporting achievements, which include representing Bermuda with the junior and the senior national squash teams.

As proud grandparents, siblings and extended family looked on with new colleagues, Mr Knights thanked all who had steered his legal education.

“This includes, but is not limited to, my extended family, a few of which I now get to join as members of the Bermuda Bar, my pastor, all of my mentors at CD & P, and my friends. Thank you all for your advice, support, and faith in my abilities. I am extremely grateful.”
