A $20,000 donation was made to a non-profit organisation that provides helps for people with special needs.

WindReach received the funding boost from Third Point Reinsurance to support its life skills and therapeutic riding programmes, which benefit about 140 students a week.

Nick Campbell, the firm’s chief risk officer and a member of the Charitable Donations Committee, said: “At Third Point Re, the focus of our charitable giving efforts are access to education, the environment and mental health, and the therapeutic and educational programmes offered at WindReach touch on all of these areas in a meaningful way.

“We are excited and very proud to partner with an organisation providing such important services to people with disabilities, both visible and invisible, and those living with special needs.”

He added: “Earlier this year, Third Point Re shifted the focus of our charitable giving towards meeting the most critical and urgent needs emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The conscious decision to provide Covid-19 funding while still maintaining our annual charitable donation budget was an acknowledgement of the important role a functional and appropriately resourced non-profit sector plays in our community.

“We remain committed to doing our part to ensure that the non-profits we support are still going strong when we emerge from this pandemic.

“All of us at Third Point Re are delighted to support those that continue to benefit from the amazing programmes and services offered at WindReach.”

The Life Skills Programme is designed for individuals of any age and ability who are able to work at various levels of independence at WindReach’s site in Warwick.

It is managed by Alyssa Frick, an occupational therapist, who works closely with support staff such as special education teachers, paraeducators, aides and social workers to make sure that students achieve personal goals and develop their independence.

Samantha Hillier, the equine services manager, works with people who take part in the Therapeutic Riding Programme.

Its benefits include better balance, stronger muscles, improved coordination and motor planning.

WindReach programmes also help to develop skills such as team work, self-discipline and self-confidence.

Tammalita Joseph, the charity’s fund development manager, said: “This generous donation has been received at a pivotal time for our organisation as we have recently reopened our programmes and are thrilled to welcome back our participants after our temporary closure back in March due to the impact of Covid-19.

“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Third Point Reinsurance Ltd. and the many other corporate donors that have helped us to get to this stage.”

Stewart Ritchie, chairman of the board, added: “This donation is a sign of the continued commitment of Bermuda’s international business community to charities, which make a significant impact to the lives of people in our community.

“We are enormously grateful to Third Point Re for their generous donation and support.”
