Covid-19 pretest for travellers starts next week in New York
Travellers headed to Bermuda from New York now have access to a quick Covid-19 pre-travel screening service in keeping with the Bermuda Government’s health protocols.
The Bermuda Tourism Authority announced a collaboration with the OpenClear testing service in New York to offer the screening service every Tuesday and Thursday, starting next week.
About one-third of Bermuda’s leisure tourists have travelled from New York since the island reopened to commercial air travel.
The service is available by appointment only between 9am and 3pm at the clinic on East 43rd Street and Third Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
Glenn Jones, the interim chief executive of the BTA, said the service had “a strong performance record for delivering test results on time”.
The pretest is given through LEAA Health and includes a nasal swab and PCR test for the coronavirus.
Booking an appointment requires proof of travel to the island within seven days, with flight number and date.
Travellers must apply for a Bermuda Travel Authorisation one to three days before departure and show proof of a clear Covid-19 test, taken no more than seven days before departure.
OpenClear offers three turnaround times for tests: 12 to 24 hours, 24–48 hours and 48–72 hours, with prices starting at $199.
The service is not covered by insurance.
