A fundraising auto show and motorcade is expected to drive crowds to Dockyard next month.

The third annual Scooter Mart Bermuda Charge will be held at the Bermuda Vintage Transport Museum in Dockyard on November 15.

David Cahill, the event director, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the response to the ride and show. Sponsor stalls have all been taken, and the 50 available early bird tickets have already sold out.

“We know there were many riders working on motorcycle and scooter restoration projects during lockdown – and it looks like they’re all going to give their rides an outing and celebrate in support of the Transport Museum.

“2020 has been such a rough year. People are really looking forward to getting together and having some fun again.”

The event is scheduled to begin at 2pm with entrants in competition for $2,000 in prizes.

The St George’s Original Dancerettes will launch an escorted motorcade from Dockyard to Hamilton and back at 4pm.

The return of the vehicles will signal the start of a live auction and prize presentations.

A spokesman for the event said the Bermuda Vintage Transport Museum has suffered through a slow year because of the lack of tourists.

Mr Cahill added: “Dockyard has been hit hard this year, with no cruise ships or tourists.

“We were grateful to receive a mass gathering exemption for 200 people so that we could bring a burst of life to the area.

“The Anchor Restaurant will be providing a simple takeout menu at the show, as well as offering dine-in specials on food and drink.”

Mr Cahill said: “Given the gathering limit, the show will be a ticket only event – we won’t be in a position to accept casual visitors. The venue will be restricted to riders and sponsors only – an auto conference that will offer a more intimate experience than our summer events, primarily aimed at enthusiasts.”

The spokesman it was hoped $5000 would be raised, with all the cash generated at the live auction going to the museum along with 20 per cent of each ticket purchased.

A further ten per cent will support the Long Riders Motorcycle Club, who will provide several marshals for the ride.

All ticket holders will be entered into the Best in Show Competition, which includes categories for scooters, motorcycles and cars.

People’s Choice awards will also be given out, along with new “best light show” awards.

Tickets for the event are available online at $39 each at bermudacharge.com, bdatix.bm or from Scooter Mart in Paget.

Latecomer tickets will cost $49.
