Man consents to extradition to face child porn charges
A 29-year-old man accused of child pornography offences in the United States today consented to be extradited from Bermuda – provided the Governor approves it.
The man appeared in Magistrates’ Court where it was heard he faced one count each of possessing and receiving child pornography.
The man, from Devonshire, first appeared in Magistrates’ Court on October 2 and was not required to enter a plea.
Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe then released him on $25,000 bail and ordered him to stay at a specific address, to obey a 6pm to 6am curfew and to wear an electronic tag as soon as one became available. He also ordered that the man not be identified.
The man was also ordered to surrender his passport, to not apply for any other travel documents and to stay at least 100 yards away from any place with the potential for international travel, such as ports or the airport.
The court heard yesterday that his extradition papers will be considered by John Rankin, the Governor, and arrangements will be made to send him overseas if approved.
Magistrate Tyrone Chin extended the man’s bail.
