Three stars win Arts Council awards
Three top artists will be honoured in the Bermuda Arts Council Awards 2020 tonight.
Peter Nash, a singer, will get a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Sharon Muhammad, formerly Wilson, an artist, and Wendell “Shine” Hayward, a musician, will be presented with Founders Awards.
Ernest Peets, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports, said: “Through their artistic talents these individuals have enlightened, uplifted and entertained us by providing us with joy and inspiration.
“It’s my absolute honour to celebrate these three deserving Bermudians, who have inspired so many of us with their artistic creativity and passion.
“Each of our distinguished recipients have in one way or another shaped our community with their creativity, commitment and passion and we are grateful for their selfless contributions to Bermuda.”
Dr Peets said that his ministry was happy to support the work of the Bermuda Arts Council.
He added that the awards ceremony was “a special and important occasion on Bermuda’s cultural and artistic calendar”.
He said: “It’s an opportunity to celebrate and pay homage to the ‘artistic giants’ of our country.”
The awards will be broadcast on CITV – One, channel 2 and WOW, channel 102 – at 6pm.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented to people who have become respected in their field and who have a significant body of original work “representative of the Bermudian spirit”.
The Founders Awards are presented to pioneers in their field.
