Premier provides updates on European Union segment of trip
David Burt has provided updates on his engagements in the European Union through various posts on his X account.
The Premier said he had engaged with officials from the European Commission, including representatives from the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets, Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union, and the EU Council’s Code of Conduct Group.
He said these engagements helped to ensure that Bermuda continued to collaborate with its EU partners as Bermuda played an increasing role in the global economy.
Mr Burt posted: “With a record number of Bermudians working in the (re) insurance industry today, international engagement like this will help us ensure that the industry can continue to provide more jobs and opportunities for Bermudians in the future.”
Mr Burt highlighted a meeting with Lindsay Croisdale-Appleby, the British Ambassador to the European Union, and the head of the UK Mission team.
“I am grateful for the work they have done to support the Government of Bermuda Brussels Office over the last five years,” he said.
“This work ensures that Bermuda’s role in the global economy is understood, which protects our financial services industry and allows for the expansion of jobs for Bermudians.
“I also presented the ambassador with a gift on behalf of the Government of Bermuda.”
In the afternoon, the Premier posted about his meeting with Helen Winter, the permanent representative of Germany to the European Union.
He said: “In my final engagement in Brussels, I met with Ambassador Helen Winter, Permanent Representative of Germany to the European Union.
“It is important that Bermuda makes friends before we need them and this engagement was part of our ongoing efforts to familiarise various EU member states with the work our Brussels office is doing and to introduce them to Ms Aliyyah Ahad, the Government of Bermuda’s Representative in the EU.”
Mr Burt then recapped on his meeting with Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, and Michel Barnier, France’s Prime Minister, who greeted him along with other leaders in attendance at the ceremony.
He said he was delighted to attend the celebratory event and cheer on Bermuda’s Paralympians Yushae DeSilva-Andrade and Jessica Lewis who achieved fifth and seventh finishes respectively at the Games.
