Unsafe tourists on rental bikes are not a big hit
Last Sunday evening I was driving in to work to make some progress on some projects! That's right people civil servants bust their butts too no less than the employees in the private sector, contrary to popular belief! But I digress. I reached Trimmingham Hill when I noticed a female tourist on a moped, stopped at the roundabout. After some 15 seconds of farting around with her bike, off she went again. This lady was so unsafe and wobbly on her moped that I was expecting her to fall off it at any moment as she rode into Hamilton or crash into a wall or another vehicle! Thankfully neither happened but it made me think that moped rental companies are doing something wrong. More on this after the top 20.
Still at #1 it's '
I Love The Way You Lie' by Eminem featuring Rihanna. Holding at #2 is
'Rockstar 10', another hit by Rihanna. Improving to #3 is
'Dynamite' by Taio Cruz. Up to # 4 is
'I like It' by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull. Climbing to #5 is
'Ride' by Ciara featuring Ludacris. Slipping to #6
'California Gurls' by Katy Perry, featuring Snoop Dogg, one of the hottest global pop tracks!
Now this week's hottest rising tracks. Making huge gains to #7 it's
'Hello, Good Morning' by Diddy, DJLT's and many others favourite hip hop track. The Beat Bangs. Had to put it in capitals; the beat is so hott, with 2 Ts. Up to #8 is
'Teenage Dream' by Katy Perry, a former essential new track and another rising hit. Falling to #9 is
'Find Your Love' by Drake, one of the most popular artists these days.
Tumbling to #10 is
'Palance' by JW and Blaze, a popular soca track this year. In fact, in Trinidad, they refer to Palancing as something that people do at a fete (party). They used to say 'liming' but these days its 'palancing'! You gotta love Trinidad. I haven't been there yet but everyone I talk to says that you just must go there for Carnival in February.
Improving to #11 is last week's must have new song,
'Just The Way You Are' by Bruno Mars. Up to #12 is
'DJ Got Us Falling In Love' by Usher featuring Pitbull. I love this dance hit; it bangs and shows Usher's flexibility. Up to # 13 is
'Deuces', by Chris Brown featuring Tyga and Kevin McCall. Falling to #14 is
'OMG' by Usher featuring will.i.am; a very popular and catchy track.
New at #15 is
'Only Girl In The World' by Rihanna. Up to #16 is
'Just A Dream' by Nelly. Slipping to #17 is
'L'il Freak' by Usher featuring Nicki Minaj. Down to #18 is
'Nothing On You' by BoB featuring Bruno Mars. I finally saw who Bruno Mars is, on a VH1show/interview the other day. Interesting little dude.
Now this week's new jam. In at # 19 is this week's essential new track,
'The Only Girl In The World' by Rihanna. Rihanna is now officially off the charts. Her star is out of this world. Hit after hit just keeps dropping, with her name on them. New at #20 is
'Bottoms Up' by Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj.
Now back to this week's word – cycle livery rental companies being safer and smarter! I understand that the whole world is in a recession! I see the signs and reality of reduced revenues and unemployment every day. But guys, you just can't keep renting mopeds to tourists who are not confident, comfortable or safe on a moped! You really must stop doing this!
There are other ways to increase revenue. How about charging for the basic instruction course? Nothing big but like $25-$50 and you can market it to them by using a slogan like "you want to rent a moped but you want to live. Aren't your limbs and life worth $50?"
Let's be real, too many tourists and locals have killed or injured themselves on our roads. Too many in reality. One is too many. But we have to find a way to reduce the probability of tourists injuring themselves and/or killing themselves (and others) on our roads.
The same has to be said about local residents! There are far too many road fatalities and road accidents. As said before; one is too many, but you get the point.
Let's encourage local residents to ride safer, smarter, cut down on the overtaking on the corners, stop the speeding, stop using the third and fourth lanes (middle and inside lanes) and then the Police, EMTs and paramedics will not have to make so many calls to families to tell them that loved ones have died in road collisions; most of which were avoidable. Peace……DJLT.
