Half-time show was simply Super

So we’re back to shootings and murders! Come on Bermuda, we can really do better than this. Yes, we can. There has to be more to life than running around selling drugs and killing another guy who would dare sell drugs in an area where I would sell them or who might even consider crossing me. Get real guys. Is there no value at all placed on the life of another man?But I want to exorcise the closet sportswriter in me by writing a bit about the recently staged Superbowl XLV. It was a good game, not as good as I expected, partly because I was rooting for the Steelers, but I was happy for Aaron Rodgers to finally put the Green Bay Packers’ fans memories of Brett Favre to rest, once and for all. But the Super Bowl is about more than that. It’s about the marketing, the media hype, the half-time show and all the other extras around the game. More on all of this later, after the Top 20.Making the big jump to #1 is Bottoms Up by Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj. Tumbling to #2 is Can’t Be Friends by Trey Songz. Up to #3 is Like A G6 by Far*East Movement featuring Cataracs & Dev. Ke$ha’s hit We R Who We R falls into the #4 spot.Improving to #5 is Raise Your Glass by Pink. Up to #6 it’s What’s My Name? by Rihanna featuring Drake. Slipping to #7 is Rihanna’s dance anthem Only Girl In The World.Climbing to #8 is Firework by Katy Perry. This track is huge in dance clubs and is definitely a sing along hit. Up to #9 is Louder (Put Your Hands Up) by Chris Willis, a huge dance hit internationally and getting a bit of play on the rock. Improving to #10 is Grenade by Bruno Mars who just continues to impress. Slipping to #11 is Just A Dream by Nelly.Advancing to #12 is Hold It Against Me by Brittney Spears. Improving to #13 is Aston Martin Music by Rick Ross featuring Drake and Chrisette Michelle. Falling to #14 is DJ Got Us Falling In Love by Usher featuring Pitbull.Soaring like Blake Griffin for a dunk to #15 its Memories by David Guetta featuring Kid Cudi, last week’s essential new tune and DJLT’s favourite track. The track is a dance anthem that gets loads of system time in clubs, radio stations, etc. More local DJs need to discover it. I had previously dissed the DJ at Café Cairo because he doesn’t or can’t mix. I stand by that, but his selection is absolutely fantastic. Up to #16 is Who’s That Chick? by David Guetta featuring Rihanna.Slipping to #17 is Teenage Dream by Katy Perry. Down to #18 is Holding You Down by Jazmine Sullivan. Falling to #19 is Dirty Picture by Taio Cruz featuring Ke$ha. This track has a big beat. Tumbling to #20 is Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. Now back to this week’s word Superbowl XLV. Well I missed the opening bits and pieces of the game but the word on the street is that it was OK. The game was like a game of quarters. Green Bay ruled the first quarter and a half. Pittsburgh ruled the end of the second quarter and most of the third quarter. Green Bay won the fourth quarter. But whilst I like and was extremely happy for Aaron Rodgers, the game was won by the Green Bay defence. They say that offence wins games, but defence wins championships. Whilst Rogers played well, I think that the Green Bay defence should have won the MVP. The real difference in the game was the three turnovers forced by the Packers’ defence.I don’t think that Ben Roethlisberger played so poorly, it was that the Packers’ defence and defensive game plan was superb. Which brings in superior coaching too, but the players have to execute, and the Packers’ defence definitely did. They caused two interceptions and one fumble by Rashard Mendenhall, the running back. Anybody who has ever watched American football will tell you that in any game, and most certainly in the Super Bowl, the team that wins the turnover battle always wins the game. I don’t care who your quarterback is; you just don’t recover from three turnovers.I would rate the game a B. I’ve seen better. I’m not a bitter fan, I’m not really for the Steelers but since my team, the Miami Dolphins (since 1985 no I’m not a bandwagon boy like some others who will suddenly now become Packers’ fans) were not in it, as a true football fan, I supported the representative of the Dolphins’ conference, the AFC, which was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Any fan who doesn’t support the representative of their conference is not a true football fan.Now to the half-time show! The Black Eyed Peas were simply out of this world. They were smart to start with their hit ‘Tonight’s Gonna Be A Good Night’. Then their hit ‘Boom Boom Boom’ sent the place into a frenzy. The choreography with dancers dressed with lights (different colours for each song) was off the hook and extremely clever. Fergie is still hot and got it done.As they performed, I remembered that they have an awesome repertoire. Their hit ‘Let’s Get It Started In Here’ was another killer track which hyped the audiences on television and at the game. Then Usher joined the set to perform ‘OMG’ with them. Smooth. The half-time show was so awesome that my wife, who is not easily impressed (is any wife?), wants to go see the Black Eyed Peas in concert. I too would like to see them perform. There is no doubt that they always put on a fantastic show. Now the ads. I thought the ads were weak. One or two were OK but the majority of them lacked the kind of creativity, newness, edginess that makes for cool ads.So we will have to see what Super Bowl 2012 produces. I don’t think they can top the Black Eyed Peas’ half-time show but the ads could be better. We will see. Peace ... DJLT.
