This solution is no pipe dream

Trinidad and Tobago-born Nicki Minaj performs on, March 18 at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo,NY.

I am, like most right-thinking Bermudians, concerned about the senseless violence, killings, murders, drug/thug life craze that has become the order of the day in Bermuda. Much has been said on this matter and many persons have opinions on how to correct this situation. I have finally decided on a solution that just might work, but you will have to wait for it (or fast forward to the end as I’m told many of my readers do. LOL) to be revealed after the Top 20.Holding at #1 is Hold It Against Me by Brittney Spears. Brittney has a number one CD now. What a comeback, eh? Comeback artist of the year maybe? We’ll see!Improving to #2 is Aston Martin Music by Rick Ross featuring Drake and Chrisette Michelle. Tumbling to #3 is Grenade by Bruno Mars.Advancing to #4 is Memories, by David Guetta featuring Kid Cudi, DJLT’s fave at the moment and a popular dance track that makes people sing along and dance in groups. The beat is infectious, the words are catchy and the track is simply well produced. Special thanks to the internet search team who found it, as well as the remix which you simply must hear, for me.Falling to #5 is Firework by Katy Perry, which has had a good run at the top of the pops. Up to #6 is Who’s that Chick? by David Guetta featuring Rihanna. Falling to #7 this week is What’s My Name? by Rihanna featuring Drake.Up to #8 is Moment For Life by Nicki Minaj. My seven-year-old nephew said this is his favourite song. Dude’s got his uncle’s taste in music big time. He’s also a charmer who roped me in by telling me I’m his favourite uncle. Smooth at seven! Look out little girls!Improving to #9 is Higher, by Taio Cruz featuring Kylie Minogue and Travie McCoy. This is an up tempo dance track that is racing up the international dance charts.Slipping to #10 is Like A G6 by Far*East Movement Featuring Cataracs & Dev. Improving to #11 is Fall For Your Type by Jamie Fox featuring Drake. Advancing to #12 is Rihanna’s current hit, S&M. You will hear this one on radio stations and in nightclubs everywhere from Bermuda to Burkina Faso (a little geography lesson for the unenlightened among us).Tumbling to #13 is Bottoms Up by Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj. Improving to #14 is Better Than Today by Kylie Minogue. Climbing to #15 is a former essential new tune, Born This Way by Lady Gaga. On the way up at #16 is F**k You (Forget You) by Cee Lo Green, last week’s essential new hit.Improving to #17 is this week is Look At Me Now by Chris Brown featuring L’il Wayne and Busta Rhymes; last week’s essential new hit. Making a lot of noise and thus improving to #18, whilst being this week’s essential new track, is ET by Katy Perry featuring Kanye West.Falling to #19 is Raise Your Glass by Pink. Tumbling to #20 is Rihanna’s dance anthem Only Girl In The World; my fave for many months now.Now back to this week’s word a possible fix for the crime and violence spree. I asked myself what I would do if my bye was a thug and/or a menace to society who was wreaking havoc, killing people, selling drugs, etc. I’m a self-confessed dreamer/idealist but, ‘without a vision the people perish’.Contrary to the views and current lack of action by most of the child-coddling, mamma’s boy-creating, co-dependent parents/guardians/family members of many of these criminals, I would:1. Beg him to stop2. Apologise for whatever I did wrong, did right, or failed to do that caused him to engage in this antisocial and unlawful behaviour.3. Explain to him that he is dishonouring our family by continuing to live that lifestyle and that he can do so much better.4. Pray for him and take him to church with me.5. Ask my Pastor, any pastor and a church family to pray for him.6. Ask him to give his life and heart to God and to live a life that is pleasing to God.7. Use my best efforts to model the kind of behaviour I would like him to emulate, and tell him that even if I did it wrong before, I’m doing my best to live right now, and that he should do the same.8. Not give up on this approach, keep after him, keep praying for him, keep having others pray for him, get down on my knees and beg God to save my son from this life.9. Report him to the Police.10. Support him through his trials, court commitments, legal issues, with a view to having him do time for all the crimes he committed, and then help him to take courses, earn a degree whilst incarcerated, in the hope that he can get a lawful job once he is released hopefully early for good behaviour.11. Support him for the rest of his life, because when you lay down and make babies, this is what you are signing up to do. I remember the wise words of the former Minister of National Security, Senator David Burch, who once said: “The Government wasn’t in the bedroom when the baby was being made, so why should the Government pay now?” Profound, cheeky, witty, but so true! The point I’m making is that parents, guardians, aunts, uncles, siblings, friends, neighbours, the extended family, the village are the people who can solve the problems. We need to stop wanting Government to fix everything. This mentality is partially why the Country is in such debt! We want to throw taxpayer dollars at every problem when the solution only requires blood, sweat, tears and prayer!Parents need to literally beg their sons to stop this senseless violence. It has to stop. They will not stop for the police and authorities. Maybe they will stop for their parents, family and friends who just might be able to get them to stop for themselves and the babies that they have or will probably lay down and make. Here’s to peace and unity in the community. Some may say that this approach is a pipe dream, but to them I say that we have to try something different because whatever we are doing now isn’t working any better!..….....……DJLT.
