'Noisy neighbours' City deserving of title
What an epic finish it was to the English Premier League. It couldn’t have been scripted any better, could it?Cross-city rivals Manchester United and Manchester City tied at the top of the table on the last day of the season. In the end it was ‘noisy neighbours’ City who prevailed in a thrilling finish against relegation threatened QPR.Down 2-1 in stoppage time, City somehow grabbed two goals to claw the title from the jaws of what would have been a crippling defeat. It was City’s first title for 44 years and to be honest I think they deserved it for the way they have played this season.I’m sure Shaun Goater enjoyed it, that’s for sure!Shaun’s goals helped get City back to the top flight and I’m sure everyone connected to the club felt very proud last weekend.United believed they had it wrapped up as time was running out on City; it just shows you how cruel a game it can be sometimes. But, as Alex Ferguson’s side have proved regularly over the years, it’s never over until the final whistle. In many ways the fashion of City’s victory was very much in the United mould. My West Ham will be trying to return to the top flight today when we play Blackpool. My fingers have been crossed since we made the Championship play-offs, and I’ll keep them crossed in the hope we can get the job done. I’d rather us play Blackpool than Birmingham, who our opponents beat in the play-off semi-finals, because the Blues are a very physical team and have some height in their team, which I believed would have troubled us.Although we missed out on the automatic promotion place it’s been a pretty good season for the Hammers. We’ve won more games on the road than any other team in the league, but it counts for nothing at Wembley today. It’s important West Ham get out of the Championships this season because it’s going to be an even tougher league next season with Wolves, Bolton and Blackburn all coming down from the Premier League.I wasn’t surprised to see Kenny Dalglish receive his marching orders from Liverpool. It’s all about winning games and this season just wasn’t good enough for a club the size of Liverpool. I’m sure Kenny will be gutted but he’s been a great ambassador for the sport and the club. Finally, I can’t wait for today’s Champions League final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich.I’ll be getting behind Chelsea but it’s going to be a tough feat for Roberto Di Matteo’s men.Bayern will be playing in their own stadium in front of their fans, which will be a huge advantage for the Germans. With that being said, if you can go to Barcelona and get a result then your confidence should be high regardless of the venue.
