BDoT should be commended for putting on magic show

Wassup my Bermuda family? So we have a bit of local entertainment and we should commend the Bermuda Department of Tourism and other sponsors for supporting this endeavour. Local entertainers and residents complain about the lack of local entertainment. Well, we finally have a locally produced show The Bermuda Magic 2012 The Renaissance: Atlantic Soul with a Caribbean Heartbeat! with 99 percent local performers. The onus is now on us, the Bermudian public, to promote the show and attend it.The Bermuda Magic Band features vocalists Stephan, Rupert and Loretta Hinds, Lovie Smith and Richard Mallory. It also features Vernon Tucker on drums and Keith Caisey on percussion.Mr Magic is also part of the show, adding a bit of diversity to the flavour of the product. A special treat is Marquita, the fiery limbo dancer. Her mom, Gloria Joell, is a veteran limbo dancer from back in the day. It’s a beautiful story to see the baton passed down from parent to child. You shouldn’t forget where you came from and it is wise to remember the old boys. In this regard, I commend the producers for including Gene Steede as a special guest artist each night. I remember Mr Steede having many shows in hotels and venues around the Island for some 40 years. He tells great jokes too and is no doubt part of the comedy segment of the show.Mr Steede is everything that is good and right about Bermuda’s entertainment industry. He has been much like the beloved Talbot Brothers in selling Bermuda around the globe as he performs, helping us to get bums on seats, heads on beds and people into shows. Thanks Mr Steede for all you’ve done for Bermuda’s tourism industry and it is right and fitting that you should be featured in this production. The show is held in the Harbourview Ballroom at my favourite hotel, the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Pitts Bay Road. The show runs from Sunday to Thursday at 8:30pm. Admission is $5, with tickets available online, www.ptix.bm, or via telephone, 278-1500.Believe me folks, this is a show you won’t want to miss. For the $50 admission price, you will be entertained with calypso, soca and R&B, film, comedy and magic. The reason for the name is that producers want people to experience the magic of Bermuda. How cool is that? So, Bermuda, let’s all do our part to make this show a success. Let’s think of reasons why the show can be successful as opposed to reasons why it cannot. Let’s highlight the positives, not the negatives. Let’s just be positive about the whole thing and see the glass as half full, not as half empty. At the end of the day, as with most things in life, it’s all about your attitude and how you approach things. Let’s will the show to be successful because if we do, other entertainers, promoters and venue owners will see the success of this and put on more shows for all to enjoy. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the way you grow an entertainment product. Peace…………………….DJLT.
