Racism - UEFA have to take firm action

So Chelsea have refused to confirm whether John Terry will remain captain after receiving a four-game ban for racially abusing QPR’s Anton Ferdinand.Terry will miss the Blues’ next four domestic games but he will be eligible to play in Tuesday’s Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk. As for the captaincy issue, I personally think Terry should be stripped of the Chelsea armband considering the seriousness of his charge.I actually think he should do the right thing and step down because I just don’t think Ferdinand would come out and tell and lie like that I just can’t see it.For me, Terry has to be punished and Chelsea have to make a stand as we can’t continue to have to this sort of behaviour happening in 2012.It’s been a bad few months for racism and football.I was shocked and appalled by the conduct of the Serbia fans during their match against England’s Under-21s in midweek.Hearing Spurs’ Danny Rose subjected to the monkey chants was nothing short of disgraceful and pathetic.UEFA really must take adequate action and ban Serbia because some of their fans obviously don’t seem capable of treating black players like human beings.Seeing racism rear its ugly head in football again is very sad; it’s like we’ve gone back to the bad old days and we all need to work harder to stamp this kind of thing out.Back to footballing matters, I’ve been impressed with the form of Wayne Rooney in an England shirt of late having scored three goals in his last two games. There’s no doubt Rooney is a very good player; he’s always going to be a threat and never gives anything less than a hundred percent. He’s the sort of player who may go through a dry spell every now and again but you know it’s only a matter of before he finds his scoring form.I just can’t wait for Rooney and Robin van Persie to hit it off as a partnership because those two are going to be absolutely lethal. They could be the new Jimmy Greaves and Alan Gilzean of 40 years ago!Of this weekend’s Premier League matches I’m particularly intrigued by Spurs’ clash with top-of-the-table Chelsea.London derbies are always special and both teams will want the bragging rights of the city.Spurs’ boss Andre Villas-Boas will certainly be looking to get one over his former team because they really didn’t give him much time at Stamford Bridge. They brought him over from FC Porto and he was supposed to be the man to save them, but he was out of the door very quickly. It just shows you that if you don’t get results at Chelsea you will be given the boot pretty sharpish.
