City’s quality comes to the fore

All I can say is wow! What a result for Manchester City in their demolition of city rivals Manchester United, and to be honest I really didn’t see it coming. But it was justified by their work rate. When you look at the players City have assembled in the off season, they are lined up with quality right the way through and can fire on all cylinders on any given game. The result doesn’t have much of a psychological affect on either club because it is still early days in the season, but the win will surely help City as regards the points.Anything can happen between now and the end of the season and injuries and other things of that nature will all play a part in deciding who will be on top in the end.United managed to bounce back in the Capital One Cup with a win over Liverpool but that’s a different competition and won’t have provided any relief for new manager David Moyes. For Liverpool, it couldn’t be a better time to get Luis Suarez back into the fold, and to give him some minutes on the field in midweek was crucial to get him back on form.If he is at his peak, he can be a menace for any team in the Premiership. It won’t be easy for Liverpool to beat Sunderland but if they can get Suarez to hit the back of the net then they will be ok and they can move forward. The match of the weekend is the battle between Andre Villas-Boas and his teacher, Jose Mourinho. They worked together at Porto and Chelsea.Tottenham have brought in experienced players who can win a game for you at any given moment, while Chelsea have a young squad who are capable blowing teams out of the water, but can also seem distant. The players will take some time to get used to each other, and the way Mourinho wants them to play will also have a bearing on their performances but this should be an interesting match-up.If Spurs can come out and get a hold of the game from the beginning then it could be difficult for the Blues, but it will take a strong showing from both sides to get the points on offer at White Hart Lane.Against Everton, my West Ham were undone last week by a piece of Leyton Baines’ brilliance with his two free kicks, but it’s hard to compete when you are missing your top players in attack. We have a string of injuries in the attacking third and have to play the traditional direct route football opposed to the possession football other sides are playing. If we can get on top of Hull City early this weekend then we can get the points, and maintain our mid-table position, but with Andy Carroll, Joe Cole and Stewart Downing out at the moment we will have to look at different avenues to get goals.
