Join L’Alliance Française for a viewing of ‘Populaire’

• The monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing “Populaire” on Tuesday, November 12th at 8pm at BUEI. This is a French movie with English subtitles and tickets cost $5 for members, $10 for non-members and $5 for students. Full details can be found at www.alliancefrancaise.bm.

• An exciting night of Texas Holdem, blackjack, craps, roulette and much more for a good cause is in store on Friday, November 15th at 9pm. Bermuda Autism Support & Education (BASE) presents Gaming for Change, a casino night fundraiser at Club Vasco da Gama.

• Handpicked festive tipples paired with some favourite holiday appetisers are on offer at MAMA’s Annual Fundraiser and Christmas Wine Tasting on Friday, November 22nd. This will be at Discovery Wines warehouse at 5 Bakery Lane from 7.30pm until 9.30pm.

In addition to the tasting, there will be a chance to bid for some great gifts in our Silent Night Auction as well as the chance to buy wine at discounted prices. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased from social@mama.bm. Proceeds will benefit SCARS and St John’s Food Bank.

• Whether you’re a bargain hunter, or looking to clear out some recyclable, or gently used items, you’ll be interested to know that Sandys 360 will be hosting a white-elephant sale on Saturday, November 30th. They are currently seeking donations and will begin collecting items on November 4th.

Some items requested include clothes, shoes, jackets, scarves, toys, toiletries, tools, baby supplies, plants, DVDs and CDs, books, kitchen utensils, small appliances and bags.

Any items left over from the sale will be donated to the Salvation Army and HOTT 107.5 Annual Christmas Drive. The sale will run from 10am until 6pm and proceeds will benefit Sandys 360 Actively Ageing Seniors. Sandys 360 offers programmes, events and activities that allows our senior community to remain social and active during their golden years. • Panto season is almost upon us (oh yes, it is) and this year’s offering from Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society is fairy tale favourite, Sleeping Beauty. This festive family show will run at the Daylesford Theatre from Thursday, December 5th until Saturday, December 14th with nightly performances at 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

On December 7th, 8th and 14th, there will not be an 8.30pm performance but there will be matinees at 2pm and 4pm in addition to the 6.30pm show. • Something to get you in the holiday spirit, the In Motion School of Dance presents “The Nutcracker Holiday Spectacular” on Friday, December 13th and Saturday, December 14th at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts, at CedarBridge Academy. This will feature Act II of the Nutcracker and other seasonal classics with showtime is at 7pm each night and a 2pm matinee on the Saturday.

Spaces are limited and tickets are $40 from www.pTix.bm. The cast of the Nutcracker will also be hosting a Tea Party on Sunday, November 24th. From 3pm until 5pm, attendees will be able to enjoy tea, crafts and a sneak peak of excerpts from The Nutcracker performance. Tickets are $35 or $55 for patrons and available on www.pTix.bm.

• January can be a bit of a comedown after all the excitement of the holiday season so it’s always nice to see something come along to brighten it up. Just for Laughs Bermuda, will be at the Fairmont Southampton Mid-Ocean Amphitheatre from Thursday, January 9th until Saturday, January 11th. Alonzo Bodden is coming back to host, and three international comics, Robert Kelly (USA), Will Syvince (USA) and Steve Patterson (Canada) along with local talent Jonathan Young will be performing.

Thursday night will have cabaret-style seating at round tables of 4, 6 or 10 and will cost $87 per person. The show will begin at 8pm and drinks and finger food will be available for sale at your table.

Friday and Saturday have theatre-style seating and tickets are $77 or $87 for reserved seating. The Friday show starts at 8.30pm and on Saturday, there are two shows at 7pm and 10pm.

In addition to JFL, Alonzo Bodden and Robert Kelly will be sharing the stage in Double Bill at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall on Wednesday, January 8th at 8pm and tickets are $45 for reserved seating. Tickets are on sale from 8am on Monday, November 4th at www.BDAtix.bm.
