Mountain Bike Series is back
* Another opportunity to purchase unique items crafted by local artists, the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents the 6th Annual One Stop Shopping event on Saturday November 16th. From 10am until 4pm, you can browse a selection of ceramics, jewellery, designer children’s ware, coiled baskets, handmade cards, local authors selling their books, and more. * Now in its eighth year, the spoke-tacular Tokio Youth Mountain Bike Series will be back on Saturday, November 16. This is a free seven race series and aims to introduce primary school aged children to cycling as a way to help promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. The emphasis of the event is on fun rather than being a competitive race as Tokio wants to help foster a love for cycling. At the end of the seven-race series one child’s name will be drawn as the grand prize winner to take home a bike from Bicycle Works. The fun series schedule is geared up for the following dates: November 23 and 30, and January 4, 11, 18 (skills demo on this date) and 25. All will be at 4pm at The Arboretum. * The November edition of the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series will be at the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI on Sunday, November 17. The 3pm screening will be ‘Herman’s House’, followed by ‘Desert Runners’ at 5.15pm. More details on the films can be found at www.BermudaDocs.com. * Sunday, November 17 is not only World Diabetes Day but there is also a full moon. To mark both occasions, the Bermuda Diabetes Association have organised a Moon Walk that evening between 6pm and 9pm, followed by a reception with food, drinks, and music. This is a 2km walk to raise awareness and funds for Diabetes and will start and finish at City Hall. Participants will walk wearing glow in the dark t-shirts and accessories. * The Berkeley Institute Library invites you to come and support your favourite school’s songbirds at their fundraising Primary School Choir Competition for the Eastern and Western Zone Primary Schools on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23 at the Berkeley Institute Cafetorium. Currently there is a total of 13 schools participating. Eastern schools competing on the Friday are East End Primary, Francis Patton, Elliott Primary, Prospect Primary, Northlands Primary and Saltus Grammar, while Western schools competing on the Saturday are Mount Saint Agnes, West Pembroke, Gilbert Institute, Heron Bay, Dalton E. Tucker, West End Primary and Somerset Primary. Showtime is at 7pm sharp each night and there are cash prizes for winning schools. Admission is $15 with refreshments on sale.
* The Project 100 invite you to escape on a magic carpet ride to their Arabian Nights Charity Gala Ball at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday, November 23. The evening will begin with cocktails at 7pm, followed by a three-course dinner at 8pm, with live music, courtesy of the David Skinner Band. Tickets cost $250 and are available from www.BDAtix.bm. * A great excuse to get dressed up – The Caledonian Society of Bermuda’s St Andrew’s Ball will be at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Saturday, November 30. You do NOT need to be Scottish to attend – you just have to enjoy good food, good company, drinking, dancing or any combination of those. The event kicks off with a cocktail reception (cash bar) from 6.30pm until 7.30pm, before seating guests at 8pm for a four-course dinner with wine, served after the Grand March and MC’s welcome. Dinner will be followed by the ceilidh portion of the evening (Scottish dancing, pronounced kay-lay), with live music from the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, and then you can dance the night away until 2am with DJ King Arthur. Dress code is black tie and tickets are $160 each, including everything but additional drinks. * The last chance to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) at City Hall will be at their Holiday Decadence Wine Tasting event on Thursday, December 5. Doors open at 5.30pm with the tasting to start at 6pm sharp. Michael Robinson from Burrows Lightbourn will present a selection of wine, champagne and port in his own inimitable style and local chocolatiers will be complementing the bubbles with their own handmade creations, with cheese pairings supplied courtesy of The Supermart, from their Gourmet Cheese Collection.
