Retailers, restaurants teaming up

Queen Street and Bermudiana Arcade’s retailers and restaurants are teaming up for the 2nd Annual Boo Bash on Friday, October 31.

From 5pm until 7.30pm, they will provide a safe trick-or-treating environment for kids aged 12 and under. The festivities will start off in the Bermudiana Arcade and Daisy & Mac, where there will be fun Halloween games, face painting and glitter tattoos while costumed staff hand out candy and spooky punch.

There will then be a costume parade at Lemon Tree Cafe from 7pm, with prizes handed out. Queen Street participants include Lemon Tree Cafe, All Things Sassy, KFC, Baked and Bermuda Book Store. For more information telephone 295-7477.

The last Bermuda Karate Institute competition of 2014 will be the 27th Annual Skippy Kick, an open martial arts tournament for all levels and styles, juniors and adults, on Sunday, November 2.

This will be from 1pm at Pembroke Sunday School and will include open forms, weapons, point sparring, K-1 and 2013 grand champions Jahzion Lugo, Tomiko Douglas, Keenan Smith, Ryley Mason, Corey Outerbridge, Jasmyn Renfroe and Andrea McKey. Channel your inner rock star while supporting the Bermuda Red Cross. A fun night of Karaoke is planned at Coconut Rock on Wednesday, November 5 from 7pm until 11pm with music courtesy of DJ Ragan Bajan. The faculty of the Bermuda School of Music will be performing in a free Lunchtime Concert on Friday, November 7. This is the opening of their annual free concert series and will be at the Wesley Methodist Church at noon. The November concert will feature violin, guitar and organ. Getting all dressed up for the holiday season can get expensive but luckily the Thrift Shop (Upstairs Closet) at the Bermuda Red Cross have come to the rescue with their annual Evening Wear Sale on Saturday, November 8. This will run from 8.30am until 2pm in the Bermuda Red Cross training rooms on Berry Hill Road and there will be specially priced and gently used evening dresses, shirts, blouses, slacks, shoes, handbags, tuxedos and accessories. Doors open at 7.30pm with showtime at 8.30pm. The event will also feature Saadia Bean and will be hosted by Carla Zuill.

Regular tickets are $42.50 and VIP are $52.50. VIP tickets include a meet and greet with Tony Gaskins, priority seating and priority for picture taking.

An opportunity to meet the artists while you shop ’til you drop at the 19th Annual Home-Grown Alternatives, an artists’ collaborative annual shopping event at St Paul’s Christian Education Centre, Paget on Saturday, November 22nd.

This will be held from 10am until 4pm and, as usual, the focus is on quality Bermuda-made art and craft, where you can find those special gifts to indulge the discerning people on your lists.

As usual, the Caledonian Society of Bermuda will be pulling out all the stops to make their annual St Andrew’s Ball a night to remember.

The ball will take place at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday, November 29 and the event kicks off with a cocktail reception (cash bar) from 6.30pm until 7.30pm.

You are seated at 8pm for dinner and served after the Grand March and emcee’s welcome. The four-course dinner with wine will be followed by the ceilidh portion of the evening, with live music from the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, and then you can dance the night away with a DJ until 2am. Dress code is black tie and tickets are $165 each, including everything but additional drinks. Tickets can be purchased for individuals, couples or whole tables (tables are either for ten or 12 people).
