Help to raise money for cancer research

Starting Saturday, March 7, at 3pm, The Yoga Centre on Victoria Street is offering a two-part, 12-week Beginners Yoga Course for those who are new to yoga or with limited experience and practise.

The course is designed to provide the basic principles of yoga beneficial for safe and renewed practise, introduce alternate options for various body types, and develop awareness and build confidence in the practise of yoga specific to individual student needs.

The course prepares students for Beginners 2 and walk-in multi-level classes.

The cost is $260 for a 12-week session.

The March edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Un été en Provence at 8pm on Tuesday, March 10.

Screening in the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI, this French movie with English subtitles tells the story of Leah, Adrien and Theo, who go on holiday in Provence with their grandparents. In addition to being disappointed not to stay in Paris with their friends during the summer, they face the wrath of their grandfather they have never met and who is not very happy to see them land in his country paradise with their grim attitude and their boorish ways. Gradually, everyone learns to live with the other. Leah meets a handsome cowboy who makes her live countless new experiences and Adrien has fantasies about the sister of the latter, a mature ice cream vendor.

Good news for anyone who likes the Vin Diesel look — a number of brave Bermuda residents will have their heads shaved on Friday, March 13, to raise money for children’s cancer research.

The St Baldrick’s Foundation invites you to come and witness the shearing at their Head-Shaving Event in the back room at The Docksider, Front Street, from 6pm.

St Baldrick’s is a volunteer-driven charity, with a mission to fund research to find a cure for childhood cancer. It is proud to partner with Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

Enjoy an entertaining evening of laughter this Easter weekend at the Live Love Laugh Comedy Show at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday, April 4.

Doors open at 8pm, with showtime at 9pm. International comedians Tony Roberts, April Macie, and Mark Viera will be performing and the event will be hosted by Bermuda’s own funny man Jah.

Those of you who love olde worlde-style pomp and circumstance, take note — the Annual Peppercorn Ceremony for this year will be on Wednesday, April 22.

During this ceremony, the Governor will will receive the Annual Rent of one peppercorn for the State House from the Master of Lodge St George and then will hold a meeting of the Governor’s Council, attended by the Premier and Cabinet Ministers.

This quaint tradition includes lots of period costumes, military uniforms, a parade and a horse-drawn carriage, all helping transport you back to 1815 when the ceremony first started. As usual, the Governor will arrive at King’s Square at the very precise time of 10.58am.

Start rallying your teams as the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is once again hosting their annual Relay For Life event at North Field at the National Sports Centre from 6pm on Friday, May 29, until 6pm on Saturday, May 30.

The event is 24 hours long and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant walking or running on the track at all times.

Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic, camp out for the night and enjoy 24 hours of activities and on-stage entertainment and contests, including best team costumes, scavenger hunts and quiz contests.

Registration is $10 per person and participants are asked to raise a minimum of $100 each. The recommended team size is 10 to 15 people.
