Now in its 18th year, the Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF) for 2015 will be running from Friday, March 20, until Thursday, March 26, so mark your diaries, fans of independent cinema. BIFF has carefully curated a programme of more than 30 feature-length and short films to be screened during festival week. The programme includes a World Cinema strand featuring several Oscar-nominated films, as well as a local talent showcase, From the Onion Patch. Tickets to all BIFF 2015 screenings are $15, with the exception of the opening and closing gala films which are $25 per ticket. Bermuda’s best asset will be celebrated at the 4th Annual Bermuda Beach Art Festival on Saturday, March 28. Artists of all skill levels are invited to take part in this Island-wide eco art competition that celebrates Bermuda’s beautiful beaches. Amazing art is drawn right on the sand, incorporating the rocks, caves or shape of the beach and exists until the next high tide washes them away. Don’t know anything about beach art? Don’t worry, as each year an international beach artist hosts free tricks and techniques workshops in advance of the competition. This year’s honoured guest is Tony Plant, a beach artist from Cornwall, England, who will host four workshops on Horseshoe Bay from 3pm until 5pm on Saturday, March 21, and then from Tuesday, March 24, until Thursday, March 26, from 5.30pm until 6.30pm daily. Your choice will be confirmed by return e-mail. You can then create your art on any beach from the west end to east end between 9am to noon and send your picture in by 2pm. Earth Hour 2015 will take place on Saturday, March 28, and as part of the celebration, Waterfront Properties is hosting a five-kilometre Glow Fun Walk and Run. From 7pm at the Waterfront on Pitts Bay Road, you can enjoy entertainment and a warm-up with food and novelty vendors on-site. The race itself will start at 8.30pm, which coincides with the lights-out from 8.30pm until 9.30pm. The final performances will be at 9.15pm, followed by a Glow DJ session until 10pm. Have fun while supporting CedarBridge students both academically and financially at the Swing into Spring Golf Tournament fundraiser on Saturday, April 25. This will take place at the Ocean View Golf Club from 8pm and there will be fun events around the course. In the event of rain, an alternate date will be posted. This event is open to all, locals and visitors alike, and the cost is $480 for teams of 4. If you don’t have a team, you can sign up for $120 and join a team at the event.
