Free concert to mark Regiment anniversary
Enjoy a wonderful evening at the UNESCO World Heritage Site as you join in with the 200th anniversary celebration of Pilot “Jemmy” Darrell in the Town of St George on Saturday, April 11. From 6.30pm until 9.30pm, you can learn about “Jemmy” and other great historic facts about St George. There will be a scavenger hunt for all to enjoy, along with live entertainment and an exhibit in the town hall. This event is free and open to the public. You are invited to bring a blanket or chair and a basket of refreshments, and join the Regiment and community bands for a free Reunion Concert in the Grounds of Government House on Sunday, April 12. The concert starts at 3pm and you can enjoy wonderful entertainment for the whole family in a picturesque setting, with popular tunes performed by the Bermuda Regiment Band, the North Village Community Band, the Somerset Brigade Band, the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, the Bermuda Chamber Choir, the Bermuda Youth Orchestra and the Warwick Academy Orchestra. Refreshments will also be on sale and limited seating will be provided for seniors. Access and parking is by the North Shore Gate only, opening at 1.30pm. This event is part of the Bermuda Regiment’s 50th Anniversary celebrations and is by courtesy of His Excellency, Mr George Fergusson and Mrs Fergusson. The public may wish to note that the grounds will be open each Sunday for the summer from May 3 until Labour Day Weekend. In the event of inclement weather, please listen to media messages or look for posted signs which will indicate whether the concert has been moved indoors to the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium. Children between the ages of seven and ten are invited to attend a Sleepover at the Library on Friday, April 17. This fun night will be spent in the Youth Library Auditorium from 6pm and the evening will be filled with storytelling, movies, games and dinner. Pick-up the following day is at 8.30am sharp. Let’s get ready to rumble as Johnny Lima and Teachers Rugby presents Fight Night XVII: Invincible on Saturday, April 18. This exciting night of boxing and kickboxing will take place at the Berkeley Institute. Doors open at 6pm and the first fight starts at 7pm. The fight card is packed with thrilling amateur bouts of local favourites, first-time fighters and overseas opponents. Bermuda’s Pan American Sanda Cup Champion and Recipient of Bermuda Sports Achievement Award Reyel Bowen will face Canada’s ACE MMA and Victory MMA Champion Cole Fetzner. As well as a cash bar, food will also be available for purchase. Tickets are $65 for general admission or $130 for VIPs and available from International Sports Shop or www.pTix.bm. Masterworks AOK invites you to dance with them at their Dance Walk in the Park event on Sunday, April 26. The warm-up starts at 2.30pm in the Botanical Gardens, followed by the Dance Walk itself at 3pm. Dance walking is joyful self-expression, creativity and freedom from inhibitions, a great workout and fun. AOK (Art Outreach for Kids) is a volunteer group raising money through fitness to make art education accessible to all children in Bermuda.
