It is that time of year again when Bermudians play a little less soca and start tuning back into reggae. Not just any reggae, but some good old-time 1970s and 1980s reggae. You know, the reggae that had you jumping out of the window once you thought your parents had gone to sleep.

The same reggae that had you hitching rides to places such as National Stadium, Old Elliot, RAA and “De Barnyard”.

The reggae that had you drenched in sweat from head to toe from all of the skanking and whining you had been doing. Yes, that reggae; old-school reggae.

Take comfort in knowing that this time you won’t have to jump out of windows or be “bumming” a ride to the dance.

This time you can simply drive you and your friends around to Ambiance Lounge on the corner of Court and Angle Streets tomorrow.

You will be immersed in the modern contemporary surroundings and plush decor. You can rock to the tunes of Bob Marley, Super Cat, Sanchez and many more.

These tunes will be delivered by veteran DJs Magic, of Souljah 1, and DJ I Breeze, of King Jyrus. Between the two of them they have nearly 40 years of experience in musically seducing the ladies of Bermuda.

They are without a doubt some of the finest examples of DJs/selectors who make the crowd shout.

To the readers, I wanted to take this time to thank all of you who have shown their support in one way or other during my first year as a columnist in The Royal Gazette. In a world full of different perspectives, it would be impossible for all of us to agree on any given subject.

You have blessed me with constantly sharing your individual and collective perspectives over the past few years and sharing your personal triumphs and, at times, your personal tragedies.

Throughout it all, you have encouraged me to keep learning and appreciating the views and life experiences of others. It has indeed been an eye-opening experience that has impacted my life in a positive manner.
