Pick you own pumpkins at Astwood Park

Young tourist Seb Crehan, from London, gets into the spirit of Hallowe’en in Bermuda last year. The 7th Annual Pick Your Own Pumpkins at Astwood Park, Warwick on Friday and Saturday, October 14-15.

Rain or shine, there will be two opportunities to attend the 7th Annual Pick Your Own Pumpkins at Astwood Park in Warwick this year, on Friday and Saturday, October 14-15.

From 3pm until 6pm on the Friday and from 9am until 2pm on Saturday, you can expect free tractor rides, face painting, and lots of family fun at the pumpkin patch. Wear your costumes and get a treat.

Small, medium and large pumpkins are available for purchase.

There are two new exhibits opening at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) in City Hall on Friday, October 14.

TechArt, a digital art show with the opportunity for artists of all ages and creative abilities to enter and win, will be on display in the Onions Gallery.

Inspired by travel, Melanie takes us on a journey through Islamic Art of her current work in the show, More to be Revealed by Melanie Francis in the Edinburgh Gallery.

The grand opening of this show will be from 5pm until 7pm on Friday, October 14th.

Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays. The exhibits will run until Tuesday, November 8th. BSoA is the oldest gallery in Bermuda, changing shows every 3 weeks and housing a great gift shop with works from local artists.

Admission is free, although donations are appreciated, and all are welcome.

Wine? Bingo? No, it’s not heaven, it’s just the Bermuda National Women’s Rugby Team hosting a Wine Tasting & Bingo Night on Friday, October 14.

Running from 6pm until 9pm at Gosling’s Wine Cellar, the ticket price includes 6 glasses of wine, your first bingo card and some light bites.

Tickets are $50 and all proceeds to go towards assisting youth players and travel costs for the National Team traveling to Trinidad & Tobago in November 2016 to compete in the RAN 7s. Registered Charity #641.

Enjoy original stories penned by local writers that may give you goosebumps and cause you to check over your shoulder at a passing breeze at Bermudian Heartbeats: Ghost Writers on Saturday, October 15 .

From 6pm until 8pm at Verdmont, a beautiful historic house built in the early 1700s and now operating as a Bermuda National Trust museum, you can enjoy this evening of readings about things that go bump in the night, featuring stories by Adam Gauntlett, Catherine Hay, Elizabeth Jones, Alan C. Smith, Andrea Ottley and others.

The October edition of the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series will be on Sunday, October 16 in the usual location of the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI.

Love and Friendship, a comic romp starring Kate Beckinsale and Stephen Fry based on the Jane Austen novella Lady Susan, will be showing at 3pm.

This will be followed by Do Not Resist, a Tribeca Film Festival documentary award winner about the rapid militarisation of police forces in the United States, at 5.15pm.

Come out and support a worthy cause while raising lupus awareness at the Lupie Groupie Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, October 23.

The race will starting 8.30am at Astwood Park, and will run until 12:30pm with lots of prizes to win.

Wearing costumes is optional, but encouraged. A show of amazing costumes is expected, and there will be a prize awarded for the most creative costume.

Sponsors for the event are MS Amlin, Barritts and Swan’s Running Club. All participants are eligible for numerous draw prizes, as well as being eligible for Swan’s End-of-Season raffle prize of airline tickets, which will draw in 2017.
