Strategic investment paying off

As the Junior Minister of Public Works, I am excited to share the details of our recent massive social investment — an initiative designed to restore our roads, clean up our public spaces, and ensure that Bermuda’s natural beauty is preserved. This $3.4 million investment focuses on two core areas:

• Enhancing and beautifying our streets and sidewalks through solo sweeping, overgrown vegetation clearing

• Restoring and improving our roadways to boost connectivity and safety

Public clean-up initiatives

We all know that Bermuda needs to do better when it comes to keeping our trees cut back and grass in public spaces from being overgrown, and recognise the frustration that this has caused to residents. That’s why the Government is dedicating an additional $600,000 to public clean-up efforts across the island. Through this investment, we will double the number of solo sweepers and boost the teams to clear overgrown vegetation and maintain the cleanliness of our public spaces.

The results will be evident — cleaner streets, more easily usable walkways, a more pristine and attractive Bermuda, and a better quality of life for Bermudians.

Our island’s reputation as a breathtaking paradise is one of our greatest assets. By investing in cleaner streets and greener spaces, we are preserving that reputation and creating a healthier environment for all.

$2.8 million for smoother roads

Safe, smooth roads are what Bermudians want and expect, but they are also essential to our infrastructure and our quality of life. That’s why the Government is investing heavily in critical roadworks. This investment is about more than just filling potholes and repaving roads; it’s about restoring pride in our island through:

• Private road paving and streetlight installation

• Railway Trail and tribe road vegetation clearing

• Repairing or replacing outdoor gym and playground equipment

• Repairs to Mangrove Bay Dock in Sandys, Ports Island, Dock Hill Swimming Facility and the Farm Facility jetty

• New flashing crosswalk beacons

• Palmetto Road steel fencing and sidewalk repairs

• A new Horseshoe Bay Beach lifeguard tower

• Parklands fencing installation

Building a better Bermuda

From cleaner streets to smoother, safer roads, to repairing our infrastructure, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for all Bermudians. By prioritising these critical improvements, we are making Bermuda a better place to live, work and visit.

The Government remains dedicated to building a Bermuda that works for everyone and leaves no one behind. In this year’s Budget, we doubled the funding for roadworks to $5 million to address the conditions of our roads. These latest investments are part of our continuing efforts to ensure that Bermuda remains a beautiful, vibrant and connected community for generations to come.
