If the youth are our future, why did Burt deny them the vote?
Bermuda stands at a critical crossroads, and the choice voters make on February 18 will determine the future of our island. The One Bermuda Alliance is the only party with a clear vision, a solid plan and a track record of delivering results.
For too long, Bermuda has suffered under failed policies, economic stagnation and a government that refuses to listen to the concerns of its people. The Progressive Labour Party has let Bermudians down, and it’s time for real change. The OBA is ready to rebuild our economy, create opportunities for all and restore accountability in government. We believe in responsible spending, social responsibility, job creation and a Bermuda that works for everyone, not just a select few.
A thriving economy
Bermuda needs a government that supports local businesses, attracts investment and creates well-paid, meaningful jobs. The OBA has a proven track record of economic growth, and we will do it again.
Education reform that works
The PLP’s mishandling of education reform has left students and parents uncertain about the future. The OBA will establish an independent education authority to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of our children. We need to take the politics out of education. The OBA will “press pause” on the PLP reforms.
Safe and strong communities
Crime is a growing concern, and we need better community policing, youth programmes and initiatives that address the root causes of violence and antisocial behaviour.
A future for our youth
Too many young Bermudians feel they have no future here. We will expand vocational training, create pathways into industries such as finance and technology, and ensure that no Bermudian is left behind.
One of the greatest frustrations I hear on the doorstep in Warwick West is the outrage over the timing of this election. The PLP’s decision to call an election while so many young Bermudians are overseas pursuing their education is a blatant disregard for their right to vote. David Burt’s deliberately calculated move has not gone unnoticed by Bermudians, and Bermuda as a whole deserves better. OBA leader Jarion Richardson has pledged to implement absentee balloting for students within our first year as government.
My career has been dedicated to mentoring and empowering young Bermudians. Through my present role, I work to provide scholarships, internships and professional development opportunities that open doors for our Bermudian youth in the reinsurance industry. I understand the challenges young people face and I am committed to ensuring that every young Bermudian has the opportunity to build a successful career here at home.
Real youth development means actively engaging with our students and young Bermudians to provide guidance, career support and networking opportunities. We must ensure all our young Bermudians have the skills and confidence needed to thrive. Bermuda cannot afford to lose its brightest young minds to opportunities overseas. Bermuda’s youth are our future. We must build an economy that works for them, and the OBA will fight to make that a reality.
The choice is clear. On February 18, I urge you to stand with the One Bermuda Alliance to demand better for Bermuda. This election is about principled leadership, accountability and the future we want for our island.
Let’s make the right choice. Vote for the party that will create opportunities for all. Vote OBA. Vote for a Bermuda that works for all of us.
