West Indies came back from heavy defeats against Fiji and Samoa in the World Rugby Sevens Championship last night to see off hosts Chile in their final group match.

The opening losses were to be expected and Chile were not anticipated to be a walkover either during the matches in Santiago, writes Matt Westcott.

West Indies, who featured Bermudians Bobby Hurdle, Josh and Danny McGavern and Jon Cassidy in their ranks, put five points on the board against Waisale Serevi's men but the Fijians, many people's favourites, ran in 55 at the other end.

In their second game West Indies were shut out 43-0 by Samoa.

However, Chile were also crushed by Group D's big two, 38-7 against Samoa and 76-0, the biggest score of the tournament so far, against Fiji.

West Indies pulled out all the stops against Chile and managed to run out winners by 21-17. Hurdle's men will take part in the Bowl competition today.
