Artist sees The Light on new CD

THE latest recordings of local artist Geneman are now out on a new CD, The Light, a compilation of 14 songs by the gospel-reggae singer, which is available in stores across the island.

It's the second album for the talented singer. His first, Righteous in Christ, an extraordinary rendition of tracks designed to make listeners dance, soothe their spirits and heal their souls, was released in 1998.

Both albums were the result of his strong musical heritage, the singer said.

"I was blessed to be surrounded by music all his life," he said. "I was born to a family of extremely talented musicians, and singers, and discovered my love and aptitude for music at a very young age.

"I was raised in the music arena, singing in gospel choirs and groups. However, it was only after becoming acquainted with God that the desire to explore the boundaries of my talent took root."

In 1994, the artist made his recording debut, his voice accompanying the talents of a contemporary Christian group,Destiny. That project, Triumph, also enabled him to use his talents to write and arrange two songs.

As his career progressed, Geneman (pictured right) was given the opportunity to record with well-known reggae Christian artist Christafari. On their 1999 release, Word, Sound and Power, Geneman performed a duet on track seven called Emancipation, Proclamation.

His first love, however, was reggae and, according to the artist, its influence is felt through all his work. Whether working as a lyricist, producer or arranger, his appreciation for many styles of music is apparent. "I was greatly influenced by the creativity and unique styles of the king of reggae, Bob Marley, and Beres Hammond," he said. "It's through their influence that my musical interpretation took form.

"My quest is to touch people's lives; it's something I demonstrate through my humility, song and ministry performance. My belief is that the vehicle of gospel reggae will reach untapped populations within the world and cause change in the hearts of man to the glory of Jesus Christ."

Geneman's latest CD, The Light, is available locally in stores. The album was produced by Dwight Jones for Tehillah Music Ministries and mixed locally at Kingdom First Studios.
