Busta holds the heat with his rock-steady beat!

YOU have to give the North Village Rams their props; they are the best club football team in Bermuda - having become Triple Crown champions last Sunday. A few of my cousins support Candy Town (sorry, Dandy Town) and as a loyal Village supporter and former player, I would be remiss if I didn't reiterate that we have beaten them in seven straight cup finals. However, I subscribe to the Rudyard Kipling theory of taking victory and defeat, and treating both those impostors the same.

Therefore I should be gracious and congratulate Dandy Town and admit that they could so easily have won last Sunday's Cup Final. They are one of the top three teams (add in Devonshire Cougars) on The Rock and they will be around to challenge for trophies every year. So, well done to Devarr Boyles and the St. John's Road family for always being in the running and for always being a feared foe, but I must congratulate the Rams.

This week my pet peeve is the plight of so many of our seniors, some of whom are living in horrible conditions. Bermuda claims to be affluent. In previous columns I've suggested that perhaps isn't the case. Well, let's look at the plight of so many of our seniors and determine how they are living and whether they feel affluent!

More detail on this after the Top 20.

Holding at number one is Yo (Excuse Me Miss) by Chris Brown. Have you seen this young brother perform? This guy is off the meter! He is good looking, very smooth, extremely confident, a brilliant dancer, he can sing, he has stage presence, I'm telling you that this guy is going far. I agree that he is the Next Generation Pop King. Usher is awesome but in his late 20's. Prince is super talented but too old, too weird, too way out in left field with no chance at being mainstream ever again. Michael Jackson is, well, enough said on Mike. I guess Chris Brown is about 18, since he claims to not have a date for his high school prom. I'm sure that job will be filled very soon. In any event, I will be checking out the Chris Brown concert right here in Bermuda on June 8. Y'all better get your tickets now, because this guy is blowing up big time and there will not be any left at the door.

Up to number two is Busta Rhymes' new hit - Touch It. Busta is one of the most creative and freaky rappers, who is willing to try something different with his look and most certainly in his videos.

Now, shifting gears to dancehall, Temperature by Yardie Sean Paul moves up to number three. You gotta love Sean Paul's beats. This track has the typical modern day dancehall beats, that are a bit faster than the older, more conscious reggae from back in the day, but which make you dance, move your feet and bop your head.

Falling to number four this week is Feel Good Inc by Gorillaz who are easily the most creative and diverse outfit in the business.

Down a couple of slots to number five is the kicking new joint from the Queen of R&B, Mary J Blige, entitled Be Without You.

Beyonce's new joint, a collaboration with Slim Thug entitled Check On It, tumbles to number six.

Slipping to number seven is So Sick by Ne Yo, one of the smoothest love songs of the year. Sorry, the new hit from Pop Queen Madonna, tumbles to number eight.

Down to number nine this week is the new one by Dem Franchize Boyz featuring Lil Peanut and Charlay, entitled Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It.

At number 10 is I'm N Luv (Wit A Stripper) by T-Pain featuring Mike Jones. In the number 11 is the new one from Keyshia Cole, entitled Love.

Now some new joints that are advancing up the charts. Improving to number 12 this week is a big tune, Testify by Common. Up to number 13 is Rodeo by Juvenile, a new one that is easing up the hip hop and R&B charts and getting increasing air play.

Up to number 14 is Best Friend by Oliva and 50 Cent. This track kicks and as is usual with 50's hits, it is very catchy.

Climbing to number 15 is What You Know by T.I.

Last week's essential new joint, up to number 16, is Three 6 Mafia's new hit, Poppin My Collar. Soaring up the charts to number 17, it's the Bajan Bombshell Rihanna with her latest hit SOS. Check out the Jason Nevins/Chris Cox dance mix. It bangs. This joint is a 2005 remake of Soft Cell's '80s pop/rock anthem entitled Tainted Love. We older punters will definitely remember Tainted love; it was a world dance/pop/rock anthem that crossed over like few other tracks did in those days, and even today. Rihanna's version is banging. Anyone's attention will be captivated by the Bajan Bombshell's sultry seductive appearance; she seems like a fusion of Beyonce and Madonna on this track. She's too young to be so sexy, but that is the world in which we live in 2006.

Dropping to number 18 is Jamie Foxx and Ludacris, with their hit single Unpredictable, which is still getting a lot of love from radio and nightspots.

Now this week's essential new joint. In at number 19 is 4 Minutes by Avant, one of the smoother ballads on the market these days. And rounding things out at number 20 is another new one, the dance hit by Carl Cox featuring Hannah Robinson entitled Give Me Your Love.

Now back to this week's word - there is no legislation in place to protect seniors from abuse.

There are many seniors who are receiving a few dollars but whose caregivers are taking the money and not looking after them. Then there are other seniors who simply don't have anyone to look after them and who struggle in living conditions not fit for animals.

Since this is Easter Week, let's see if we can be more Christ-like and do more for our seniors. Over the years, I've watched senior members of my family age and some have expired. The process of aging is awful. My father-in-law always says, "It's a sin to get old", and he is right. When you get older, your body just cannot do the things it used to do, it becomes frail and you usually are more prone to illness and disease. As you age, most people become less interested in you, your family have little time for you, and many of your closest friends are either in poor health or are already deceased. However, you feel that you have given and sacrificed much for your family and for the country, yet your quality of life may have significantly diminished.

We all will go through this. Therefore, we should do all we can to improve the quality of life of all seniors in Bermuda. This way, every Bermudian will be comfortable and content in their twilight years. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Now there's the issue of War Veterans, who are also seniors. These distinguished gentlemen served their country in World War Two and were part of a worldwide effort to ensure that peace, democracy and the individual freedoms that we now take for granted would always prevail.

Many of these gentlemen are poor and living in horrible circumstances not befitting their status as war veterans. We must do more to improve the living conditions of all seniors, including war veterans. I heard that the War Veterans Association has some money to assist war veterans who need assistance and are entitled to it. Hopefully the veterans, ALL war veterans, will receive the assistance from the association.

Seniors who cannot provide for themselves should be given free accommodation, free medical care (with weekly or monthly checkups made mandatory), free prescription drugs, free glasses, hearing aids, a decent (enough money to cover anything else they need that isn't already provided) monthly pension, free wheelchairs (for those who need them) and anything that is necessary to make them comfortable in the midnight of their lives. Government collects enough revenue and has enough surplus this year to pay off some of its debt and fund a new Seniors Initiative as outlined above.

If I were Premier, this would be one of the first programmes that I would implement.

I cannot imagine that any Bermudian, politician of sound mind, would disagree with this or at least some variation of this kind of seniors programme.

Happy Easter and safe kite-flying!
