THIS was an evenly matched affair that was characterised by good end-to-end skating and continued improvement on individual passing and positional play by both teams. In typical fashion the Leafs were led by the Nicholas Hall, Matthew Betteto, Mikey Daly line who figured in on all the Leaf's scoring.

Daly got the Leafs off to an early scoring lead with the first two goals. His first goal was a strong wrist shot coming off of a nice pass from Hall and his second came on an unassisted individual effort. The Canadians came back strong in the second half of the game with heavy pressure on Leaf goaltender Nicholas Vasic with Ryan Goddard netting two goals to tie the game. The Leafs came back with a nice two-on-one with Matthew Betteto finishing off the play after Canadians goalie Krishna Boodram made an initial stop off of Daly. It looked like the Leafs were going to pull out another late win but the Canadians stormed the Leafs net and came up with the equaliser in the final seconds on a give-and-go play started by Tyler MacNeil and finished by Christian Hillen with his first goal of the season.

Oilers 5, Red Wings 0

This match was much more closely played than the score suggests. The opening period saw end-to-end action with good stops at both ends by Oiler's goaltender Toby Brooks and Red Wing's goaltender Ben Williams. The scoring was finally opened by Sam Brooks' first goal of the season capping off a very nice three-way passing play with Adam Weech and Beckett Simmons. Beckett ended the opening frame with an end-to-end unassisted effort jamming in a goal from close range. Red Wings increased the pressure in the final frame led by the strong forechecking of Tyson Harvey, Daniel Heintzman and Tadhg O'Shaunessy but were unable to get by goaltender Brooks who preserved his shutout with a number of key stops. Weech then put the game away late with three straight goals with Laird Simmons and James Lorimer-Turner chipping in with nice assists.

Lady Leafs Red 6

Lady Leafs White 6

The girls hockey was another week of goal-scoring action. The girls continue to improve their skating and puckhandling skills which were on display in the Red's verses White's intrasquad game. The Whites were led by high-flying Adrianne Miller who scored all six goals nearly equalling Celine Collis seven-goal record performance of a week ago. Adrianne had lots of help as she was the beneficiary of a number of nice passes from teammates Christina Collis, Lauren Daly, Jackie Buchanan and Sophia Collis. The game started with the Miller opening with a hattrick before the Red's kicked into gear and got on the scoresheet. The Red's were led by the Paula Weech and Celine Collis. Weech ended up with four goals with Celine getting two including the late equaliser as the game came to a close. The Red's played one girl shorthanded for most of the match but the strong defensive play by Sierra Yit and Inaara Lalani kept the pressure off guest goaltender Adam Weech. Yit also added a nice assist on the final tally of the match. Guest goaltender Tyler MacNeil made a number of big saves off the hard shooting Reds to keep the game close.

Blue Flames 7

Red Flames 1

It was sweet revenge for the Blue Flames this past Saturday, as they completely dominated the Red Flames, and walked away from the Pembroke Community Centre rink with a very one-sided victory.

The Blue Flames Cortland Moore opened the scoring with a wrist shot that beat the Reds goal tender Rowan Vickers between the pads. George Scully followed up with a wrister moments later that beat Vickers on the glove side. Vickers did manage some slick saves, but the Flames pressure proved to be too much. Both Moore and Scully each went on to score hat-tricks in the first half, with Shaquille Lathan digging hard in the corners, and assisting on two of Scully's goals.

The only two shots on net the Red Flames were able to muster in the first half were powerful wrist shots by forward Alex Thornton, but the Flames goal tender Tucker Moore came up with saves on both.

The second half of the game was an even-handed affair, with each side scoring only once. Again Tucker Moore stopped a bullet from Alex Thornton, and it looked very much like he would leave the game with a well deserved shut out. The one goal he did allow however was a rising, slap shot by Scully (who had changed teams to even things up) which deflected off Cortland Moore that gave the Reds Shirts their only goal. There was some excitement in the final minute of the game as the Red Flames pulled their goal tender, and managed to apply some intense pressure of their own. Taylor Dickinson had some good chances, but it was the Flames Cortland Moore who scored the final goal, picking up on a rebound from a shot delivered by David Henderson.
