Experienced diver Choy Aming caught these spectacular images with an underwater camera when he was diving off the South Shore on Saturday, April 2. “When you get in they are so big but gentle,” he said. “They have such a grace and majesty that you don't get scared.” As a senior employee on the Fantasea whale watching boat he has been diving with whales four times, he said. He took these photos when the whales were in 40 feet of water. The average distance away from the Island to find migrating whales is three miles, however they have been seen 300 metres from shore.
Mr. Aming said whales do not like small boats with outboard engines and advised boaters to shut off their engines if they tried to approach the whales. Photo by Choy Aming
