Goals galore as junior season kicks off with a bang!

GOALS, goals and more goals were the order of the day as the 2002/03 junior domestic season kicked off with a bang last weekend.

In all, there were a staggering 93 goals recorded, while there were also nine hat-tricks bagged from 11 matches which were held around the island's various grounds.

Enjoying the lion's share of the goal-feast were St.George's, Boulevard, Devonshire Colts and X-Roads.

In the Under-13 Youth Division, North Village Reds outscored Devonshire Colts 6-1 at Police Field. Paving the way for Reds' inspiring win was Kwonde Lathan who notched a superb hat-trick, while Glen Walker, Matthew Maderios and Shane Hollis all chipped in with a goal apiece. David Brunson scored a consolation for Colts.

During a lopsided affair at St. John's Field, St.George's hammered Dandy Town 11-0. Jahron Dickinson led the east ender's charge by cracking home four goals, while Akeem Trott notched an equally fine hat-trick. Jez Burrows, Shakir Hodsoll, Harold Houston and Tyler Masters also contributed to Town's demise by grabbing a goal apiece.

At Shelly Bay, Boulevard roasted Southampton Rangers 15-1.

Tumaini Steede helped himself to six goals, while Ian Coke also managed to bag a superbly taken hat-trick. Aaron Foggo and Dominique Lambert each scored two goals, while Southampton's Niko Smith scored an own goal. Jabriko Allen scored Rangers' lone strike.

At Somersall Road, X-Roads and BAA Greens battled to an exciting 4-4 draw.

Tristan Daniels (2), Uthmani Talbot and Mackai McGowan all managed to find the target for X-Roads, while BAA replied through James Currie (2), Alex Martin and Shawn Brown.

Over at Bernard Park, Village Whites and St.David's also played out to an exciting 3-3 draw. Cory Byce (2) and Jahmari Place scored for the home team, while Mark Crawford (2) and Colin Richardson replied for the young Islander's.

At Warwick Academy, Western Rovers schooled PHC 2-0. Charles Watson and Aaron Evans both emerged as Rovers' goal-scoring heroes.

In Under-15 action, Village edged by United FC 2-1 at Bermuda College.

Vernell Lambe and Keishan Bean were both on target for Village, while Kervon Tucker replied for United.

At Somerset Cricket Club, X-Roads blasted Somerset 10-1. Lamont Brangman led the way for the visitors by scoring a well-taken hat-trick for the visitors while Howard Ascento and Reginald Baker both grabbed two-goals. Others getting in on the scoring act were Kershon Burt and Alex Brangman, while Somerset also scored an own goal.

At Shelly Bay field, Boulevard blasted PHC 10-0. Angelo Simmons enjoyed a fine outing by cracking home four goals, while Ajani Gibbons scored twice. Others contributing during this comprehensive rout were Troy Burgess, Alana Burchall, Kawanda Smith and Randy Broadbelt.

Wrapping up the opening weekend's play in the Under-17 Division, a superbly taken hat-trick by PHC's Aquino Grant and another strike from Antoine Russell saw the young Zebras pull off a thrilling 4-2 victory over Somerset at Somerset Cricket Club, while during another high scoring affair at Shelly Bay field, Devonshire Colts outscored Boulevard 7-6.

Kyle Outerbridge scored a hat-trick for Colts, while Ryan Purnell, Antonio Lowe and Jacqui Simons all chipped in with a goal apiece.

Youth action resumes tomorrow.
