Greenslade way out in front
THE penultimate Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association racing certainly challenged all of the 32 sailors last Sunday with gusts of 27 knots at Two Rock Passage.
In the advanced fleet each sailor was extremely consistent in all five races with Joshua Greenslade in first place in three races. The fourth race was a very close call with four sailors crossing the line within inches of each other. With only one day of racing left Greenslade is so far the clear winner with 53 points ahead of the next competitor. However, it is going to be an exciting end for the next four positions with only four points between Haley Powell, Jordon Saints, Anthony Bailey and Cameron Pimentel. Other consistent sailors throughout the season have been Martin Finegan, Blake Burgess, Kalin Hillier and Connor Astwood.
In the Intermediate Fleet all 13 sailors competing found the weather tough with the older sailors fairing better. Catalina Sposato won three of five races with Giles Lorimer Turner only two points behind her. Team spirit prevailed when mentor, Joshua Greenslade sailed with Sam Stan as he struggled with sustained 20 knot winds and gusts to 27 knots from the windward mark. Stan is currently in fifth place in the Intermediate Fleet and is a testament to his skill and dedication.
