Our young jumpers take the lead in tournament
BERMUDA'S team in the Caribbean Equestrian Association's Junior Jumping Competition returned from Jamaica this week flying high after taking the lead in the annual tournament which sees them up against the best riders from Trinidad and Tobago, the Cayman Islands, Barbados and Jamaica.
Camille Outerbridge led from the front going clear in all three rounds at the competition which was held at the Half Moon Equestrian Centre in Montego Bay.
The 15 year old was backed up by Olivia Gracie, 15, and Meghan Diel, 12, and now Bermuda lead the standings with 32 points with Barbados second on 23 points, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica tied on 18 points with the riders from the Cayman Islands on 17 points.
Catrina Adcock, Bermuda's coach who travelled to Jamaica with the local trio, said: "I am very happy with them. They did very well ? it is exciting because Bermuda have never won this competition before."
Bermuda hosted a round in May this year and again Outerbridge came up with the goods topping the standings.
Mike Cherry, head of the Bermuda Equestrian Federation, said: "This is really good news for our young riders. They are showing what they can do."
While Outerbridge won the individual honours in Jamaica in the Under-16 division, Gracie was third individually in the Under-16 group while Diel was also third in her division ? the Under 12 group.
The final round of the competition will be held in Trinidad next month.
